KINGSBURY – Raymond Haswell Irish joined his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” in the Lord’s house on March 21, 2017.
Ray was born in Peekskill, on January 14, 1935, to the late James Wilbur and Dorothy Irish.
In 1957, Ray graduated with a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While attending RPI in Troy, he met the love of his life, Betty, who was attending Russell Sage College. They married on September 14, 1957.
After college, Ray was employed by his father as a Civil Engineer in the family business in Westchester County. He then moved to Glens Falls and spent 20 years with Rist-Frost Associates, eventually becoming a partner in the firm. Ray then worked for himself before retirement.
His favorite things in life were spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) and watching his favorite team the New York Yankees. If they were losing, he would yell at the TV, call them “bums” and change the channel. Ray was a great father, a generous man, who gave to many charities. “Pop” doted on all his grandchildren and cherished his trips to Maine with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin M. Irish of Kingsbury, Michael Raymond Irish and his wife, Kelly of Warrensburg, James Irish and his wife, Lorrie of Hudson Falls and Jeffrey Irish of San Francisco, California; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Rehn and her husband, Whitney and Amanda McWherter and her husband, Joshua; his grandsons, Raymond Irish, Ryan Irish and Shea Irish; his great grandchildren, Hadley and Evan Rehn and Noah McWherter; and several nieces and nephews.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, James and Dorothy Irish and his siblings, James Irish, Dorothy Avery and Patricia Robinson. His wife, Elizabeth passed away in 2014, after 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the funeral home.
Burial will be later in the spring at Pine View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ray’s memory be made to Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
