ARGYLE – Lester R. Waite, 82, formerly of Ferry Street in Hudson Falls, and most recently of the Judy’s Holbrook Adult Home and Pleasant Valley Health Care Facility, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014, at Pleasant Valley.
Born on November 17, 1931, in Watervilet, he was the son of the late Duane and Rose (Rustin) Waite.
Lester owned and operated Waite’s Grocery in South Glens Falls. He was also a pin setter for Skyline Bowling Alley and Mills Bowling, now B&C Lanes. Lester also worked for many years for the Salvation Army in Glens Falls. Lester devoted his time every Christmas season as a kettle worker for the Salvation Army.
Lester enjoyed playing games and socializing at Judy’s Holbrook Adult Home, watching square dancing and listening to country music. He also was an avid NY Yankee Fan.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clifford Waite, George Waite and Lawrence Waite and his sisters, Dorothy Shaver and Helen Smith.
Lester is survived by his sisters, Christine Lewis and her husband, Jeffrey of South Glens Falls and Julia Sweet of Queensbury; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, from 2 to 3 pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will follow the calling hour at 3pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the spring at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.
