FORT EDWARD – Esther A. Johnson, 90, of Fort Edward passed away November 12, at the Indian River Nursing & Rehab Center in Granville.

Born on October 15, 1926, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther (Montena) Sadler.

Esther graduated from Fort Edward high school with her twin sister, Emily in 1944.

Following graduation Esther started her career in the insurance industry. She retired from the Continental Insurance company after many years of service.  She also worked for the Zayre Department store in Queensbury for many years.

Esther was a 60 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls. She served on several boards and particularly enjoyed the gathering of the woman’s association.  She delivered flowers, visited shut ins and spent many hours volunteering at the church thrift store.

Esther enjoyed the numerous trips to New York City with her husband Jim, where they viewed the Christmas decorations and took in a show. She was a big fan of  hot air balloons and frequently  attended the local festival.

Esther was predeceased by her husband of many years, James H. Johnson and her twin sister, Emily S. Towne.

She is survived by her nieces, Cynthia Jackson of Livonia, Elizabeth Szuba and her husband Richard of Rochester and Rebecca Lummis of Galway and her great nieces & nephews Nicole Jackson, Alex, Max & Hannah Szuba, Kalyn and Jourdan Lummis.

Private funeral services were held Wednesday, November 16, with the Rev. Donald Shuler. Burial was in Union Cemetary, Fort Edward.

The family wishes to thank her friends and caregiver, Penny Sheedy and the staff at Indian River for the care and compassion given to Esther and her family.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Betty A. “Betty Boop” Johnson

Betty Johnson 1 Betty Johnson 2QUEENSBURY – Betty A. Johnson, 72, of Sanders Lane, Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Stanton Health and Rehab Center in Queensbury.

Born on November 19, 1942 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Swan) Stevens.

Betty was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hudson Falls, where she was also a member of the Court Mater Dei #1442 Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Family was the biggest part of Betty’s life. Christmas Eve gatherings were very important and she prepared months in advance. An avid cardinal collector, Betty loved watching them through her window. Betty enjoyed taking ceramics classes; making gifts for her children and grandchildren. Betty will be forever missed.

Betty was predeceased by her longtime companion, Richard “Pa” Clapper of Queensbury, two brothers, William Stevens and Robert Stevens, and one sister, Beverly Cutler.

Survivors include her children, Phillip D. Johnson and his wife, Michelle, of Moreau, Stephen M. Johnson and his wife, Laurie, of Hudson Falls, Jeffrey B. Johnson and his wife, Lisa, of Fort Ann, Deborah L. Hayes and her husband, AK, of Glens Falls, Jason R. Clapper and his wife, Melissa, of Glens Falls; grandchildren, Andrea Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Kristie Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Michael Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Amber Bement, Eric Bement, Jennifer Hayes, Alee Hayes, Marlayna Kineke, Connor Kineke, Cassidy Clapper, and Jace Clapper; great-grandchildren, Shane Cahill, Sophie  and Hailey Johnson; one sister, Theresa Derby and her husband, Robert of Hudson Falls, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and Aides on the East Wing of the Stanton Health and Rehab Center; with much appreciation going out to Caitlyn Howard and Andrea Blanck for their care and compassion.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow at 11 am on Monday at the funeral home.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

Judith J. Johnson

Johnson, JudithHUDSON FALLS – Judith Johnson, 71, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, while at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

Judith was raised in Hudson Falls.  She was the daughter of the late William and Regina  Bilodeau.

Judith earned her Bachelor’s from St. Lawrence University in 1966 and completed a Certificate of Study at the Sorburrne.

In 1999, Judith retired from New York State Audit and Control Division.  She specialized in fraud and abuse in Medicaid.  During her 34 year career, she received numerous awards and recognition.  She worked in the New York City Office for over 25 years before completing her career in Albany and then returned to her childhood home in Hudson Falls.

Judith’s passions were Paris, the arts, and cooking.  While in New York City she opened the restaurant, Lion D’ORR in Brooklyn.  The restaurant was well known for wonderful French cuisine and neighborhood charm.  Judith also loved to paint, and to enjoy the warmth of a friendship and good conversation over a glass of wine.

She was a global traveler, making frequent trips to Paris and other European countries, as well as the United States.  She served on the leaders of the Feeder Canal Alliance and the Hudson River Music Hall.  Her passion for all kinds of music made her not only a board member of the Hudson River Music Hall, but also a benefactor, a friend and a beloved member of its “family”.  She loved and was loved by its board, its volunteers, it regulars, patrons and its musicians.  She brought, to all who knew her, laughter, new experiences, opinions, class and food, food, food!

Her charm, grace, generous spirit and passion for life will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judith is survived by many loving friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Virginia “Jinny” Charboneau Aurelia Johnson

JohnsonGLENS FALLS – Virginia “Jinny” Charboneau Aurelia Johnson, 71, of Glens Falls passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Glens Falls hospital, following a short illness.

Born on April 5, 1942, in Hartford, CT., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marion (Matot) Charboneau.

Her first husband David Aurelia passed away in 1989.

In 1993, she married Loren “Cliff” Johnson.

Jinny owned and operated her His & Hers Ceramics in Hudson Falls.

She enjoyed ceramics, bowling, raising Persian and Himalayan cats, dancing and especially enjoyed time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she is predeceased by a son, David Aurelia.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Loren “Cliff” Johnson of Glens Falls; her children, Patrick Aurelia of Hudson Falls and Elizabeth “Betsy” Parker and her husband Joseph of South  Ozone Park in Queens; her grandchildren Megan and William Aurelia; her step-children, Sharon Ruggi and her husband, Ennio of Kingsbury, Linda Ferry of South Glens Falls, Todd Johnson and his wife, Stephanie of South Glens Falls, Tim Johnson of Glens Falls, Tambra Johnson of South Glens Falls and Tara Vestal and her husband, Mathew of South Glens Falls ; many step-grandchildren; and a “sister”  Edith “Tunny” Heeber of Enfield, CT.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Jinny’s family suggests that memorial donations in her memory be made to the American Diabetes Association, 50 Colvin Ave, Albany, NY 12205.

Her family gives special thanks to her step-niece, Gracie Maranville as she was so very important to Jinny’s care in her last years.
