HUDSON FALLS – Julia (Flores) Jay, 95, of Franklin Street in Hudson Falls passed away on Friday. March 15, 2019, at the Glens Falls Hospital with her granddaughter, Julie, at her side.
Born on September 27, 1923, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Rose (Zeto) Flores.
Julia attended Fort Edward High School and on April 28, 1946, she married Lloyd Jay at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Lloyd passed away August 30, 2012, after 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Following high school, Julia worked at Standard Wallpaper and later she was employed at Union Bag, Arkel and Smith, which later became known as Chase Bag. She worked a total of 40 years at Chase Bag, retiring in 1986.
Julia was a communicant of St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. She was an avid Avon collector, having accumulated over 1,800 pieces in her lifetime. While her husband was alive, they enjoyed growing a vegetable garden. Julia always canned her vegetables and froze her raspberries. She also loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch television. For many years, Julia enjoyed going to Maine with her family.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Sophie Rock and her husband, Ross, Mary Rose and her husband, Milo and Rosalie Brayton; her brothers, Francis “Buddy” Flores and his wife, Jeanette, Newell Flores and his wife, Rita and Sylvester Flores Jr.; and her sister in law, Marie Flores.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith J. Fish and her husband, Michael of Fort Edward; her grandchildren, Julie Fichtner of South Glens Falls, Adam Lloyd Fish and his wife, Jennifer of Gloversville; her great grandchildren, Eliana Mutia Fichtner, Silas Jay Fichtner, Lillian Marie Fish and Annabel Rose Fish; her brother, Joseph Flores of Hudson Falls, her brother-in-law, Harold Brayton of Argyle; her sister in law, Janet Flores of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. following calling hours following the calling hours at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.
Burial will be later in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
