SARATOGA SPRINGS – Janet (Musolff) Morano, 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Saratoga Hospital.
Janet was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and Ithaca College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in music.
On October 21, 1945, she married Nicholas F. Morano at the St. Michael’s Rectory in Amsterdam, New York. Throughout their 65 year marriage, they shared their love of family, education, and music. Nicholas passed away on April 7, 2011.
Janet began her teaching career in Western New York. In 1952, she moved to Hudson Falls, where she taught physical education and health education in the public school system. She loved sports, especially soccer, and coached field hockey and cheerleading at the high school level. She retired in 1979 but continued to enjoy her passion for sports and music, attending a variety of musical performances in Saratoga, Vermont, North Carolina, and Florida. She was very well respected by her peers and enjoyed maintaining friendships with them, and also several of her students, over the years.
She always stayed physically active. In her 70’s, while visiting her family in Ballston Spa and watching her grandchildren roller blading in the driveway, she strapped on a pair for the very first time and, it was no surprise to anyone, she skated like she had been doing it her whole life. Janet also loved swimming, enjoyed animals, art, nature, and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She was often visited by neighborhood children who would bring her baked treats, flowers, and school projects, and enjoyed sharing her love for the piano with those children interested in learning how to play. She was a talented artist who painted with water colors. Many of her family members and friends lovingly display her art in their homes. Along with playing the piano, she also had a beautiful singing voice.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother George.
She is survived by her three children, Francis G. Morano (Sharon) of Syracuse, Michele Keller (Gary) of Saratoga Springs, and Nicholas Morano (Kathleen) of Ballston Spa; seven grandchildren, Matthew Saccuccimorano (Maria), Karen Morano, Ellen Chryss (Christo), Scott Wood (Wednesday), Audra Avila (Brandon), Jessica Mossing (John), and Kaitlin Morano; eight great grandchildren, Esme, Enzo, Carmela, Constantine, Nicholas, Desmond, Lauren, Ella, and Jack; cousin, Beverly Fredericks; sister-in-law, Carmel Musolff, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, from 11 to 1 P.M., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Burial will follow the calling hours at 2 P.M. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the Town of Stillwater.
