HUDSON FALLS – Mary P. Gilmour, 91, of Main Street, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Great Barrington Rehab and Nursing Center in Massachusetts.
Born on October 18, 1921, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Dowd) Sweeney.
Mary was a graduate of Bishop McGinn High School in Brooklyn. She met the love of her life, Stephen “Steve” Gilmour at a high school dance. They were married the day after her 18th birthday, October 19, 1939 and shared 59 wonderful years together before his death, in 1998.
Mary lived for many years on Long Island, where her and her husband raised their children. When Steve retired, they moved to Texas. After his death, in 1998, Mary returned to New York.
She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church. Her faith was important to her. God was the center of her life. Mary also loved listening to music, dancing, singing and whistling.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her three sons, Paul Gilmour, who passed away in 1997, Chris Gilmour, who died in 2001 and Tom Gilmour, who passed away in 2007, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three children, Arlene Ennis and her husband, John of Long Island, Stephen Gilmour, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of PA and Regina Newell and her husband, Robert of Hudson Falls; her daughter in law, June Gilmour of California; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her nephews.
Friends may call on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.
