QUEENSBURY – Gertrude I. Purdy, 96, formerly of Sherwood Acres, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Stanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury.
Born on September 24, 1919, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late James and Lena(Bell) Wilson.
Gertrude was a graduate of Hartford Central School and in 1937, she married Milton W. Purdy, in Schuylerville. He passed away December 25, 1990.
For over 35 years, she was a member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church. Later she attended Caldwell Presbyterian Church in Lake George and Harrisena Community Church in Queensbury. At every church she attended, she was active in their church choirs and was known for her beautiful singing voice. She also sang with the Adirondack Chorale.
Gertrude was also an avid golfer throughout most of her life. It was a dark day for her, when at the age of 87, she had to hang up her clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carole Ford, her eight brothers and sisters and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her children, John Purdy and his wife, Diane of New Milford, CT and Linda VanHeuvel and her husband, Ned of Saratoga Springs; her grandchildren, Jonathan Lindblom, Jill Lindblom, Christian Rice and Caroline Mannion; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Memorial services will follow the calling hour at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with the Reverend Derek Hansen, pastor of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, officiating.
