Donald grew up on a dairy farm in Kingsbury. There he met the love of his life Hylda Marion Lynes. In 1943, they married on a beautiful August day at her parents’ house. They raised their four children in Kingsbury and spent their summers at their cottage, Mi-Hy-Ke on Isom Bay, Lake George. The words “close enough” were loudly echoed throughout the fields while he was umpiring. He retired from this career at the ripe old age of 88.
