FORT EDWARD – Ernesta M. “Mert” Phillips, 65, of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on February 17, 1950 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret (Phelps) Phillips, Sr.
Mert enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with the love of her life, Clifford “Bud” Hammond. She also was an avid collector of Betty Boop and Elvis memorabilia.
Besides her parents, Mert was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest “Putt” Phillips, Jr., Charles Phillips, Sr., Earl Phillips, Sr. and Robert Phillips; and her sisters, Sylvia St. John and Priscilla Passino.
Survivors include her companion, Clifford “Bud” Hammond; three sons, Edward Hammond and his late wife, Lorraine, David Hammond and John Hammond and his wife, Sandy; three daughters, Mary Betanzos and her husband, Ricardo, Joann Park and her husband, Jeff and Cathy Foster and her husband, Fred; her three brothers, Edward Phillips and his wife, the late Glenda Burdo, Dennis Phillips and his wife, Naomi and Jerry “Joe” Phillips and his companion, Lois; her sisters, Betty Coda, Margaret Rawlin and Patricia Reed; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, offficiating.
