HUDSON FALLS – Elizabeth “Betty” LaFay, 70, of Willow Street, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
Born on October 12, 1946, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Carol (Carr) LaFay.
Following her graduation from Hudson Falls High School in 1967, she spent many years taking care of the neighbor’s children. Betty loved children and felt very fortunate in being able to share and be part of the wonderful memories she helped to create. For many years, she was also the caregiver to her mother and father, until they passed away. After their passing, she went to work at the Kingsbury Town Hall as the Assessor’s Clerk. Betty shared 41 faithful years with the town, until her retirement. After her retirement, not being able to sit down, Betty began working part time at the Fort Edward Assessor’s office.
She was a member of the Washington County Women’s Republican Club, where at one time, she was Secretary and the Senior Center of Kingsbury & Fort Edward, where she attended the Silver Sneakers.
Betty loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Family was the center of her life. Betty enjoyed family dinners, weddings, attending all their school functions and spending time with her grand puppy and best friend, Romeo.
Betty was a kind, caring, gentle, giving and supportive lady to her family, friends and community. She will be missed by all those that knew her. Not a negative word could be said about Betty, except that she cheated at cards.
She is survived by her siblings, Kathleen Barber and her husband, Dominic “Mickey” of Hudson Falls and Kenneth LaFay and his wife, Janet of Hudson Falls; her nieces and nephews, Kenneth T. La Fountain, Carol Dresser and her husband, Nicholas, David LaFay and his wife, Corrie and Becky Carey and her husband, Bradley; and several cousins.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Deacon William Bazinet, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
Memorial donations may be sent to the SPCA of Upstate New York, P.O. Box 151, Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the charity of your choice.
