Dorothy Eleanor Anthony

HUDSON FALLS – Dorothy Eleanor Anthony, 88, of Burgoyne Avenue, peacefully passed on Sunday December 16, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 18, 1930 in Amsterdam Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Suzanna Jeanette and Richard A. Anderson. Her parents passed when she was a very young girl. The Late Alfred and Bertha VanAvery took her into their home.

She stayed there till she went to work for Beech Nut Gum Factory in Canajoharie. Along that path in her life, she met the love of her life, the late Homer F. Anthony. Dorothy and Homer were united in marriage on July 24,1948.

Homer’s job brought them to the Hudson Falls area where they finished out there years. Dorothy and Homer enjoyed camping and Friday night pitch games with close friends. They camped all the New England states for their vacations.

After the move, Dorothy did child care for dear friends the late Shirley and Richard Dygert’s three girls. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She and Shirley really enjoyed mastering tough patterns.  Dorothy also enjoy taking a day and going to the Racino in Saratoga. She like doing word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and in her younger days, she had a vegetable garden and flower garden. Dorothy also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed a softball game, dance recital, or music concert.  Dorothy enjoyed special Holidays and got to see her grandsons and spend time with them. Her greatest enjoyment was her church, The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Glens Falls.  At the Church, she was part of the Altar Guild and also packed clothes for the Orphan Grain Train.  Dorothy also loved all the furry friends she had through the years.   She was a very special wife, mom, extended mom and grandmother.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Homer F. Anthony, her granddaughter, Amanda Eleanor Anthony, her brothers, Victor Anderson, William Anderson, Arthur Anderson and extended family, Terry (Dygert) Rabine.

Survivors include her son, Gerald H. Anthony and his wife, Debbie; her daughter, Lori Jean Derrick and her husband, James; her grandchildren, Jennifer Garti (Andy), Jimmy Derrick (Wanda), Jeremy Anthony (Erin) and, David Anthony (Rose); extended family Robin Dygert, Marla and Jamie Burleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

At this time, we would like to thank the Pulmonary Physicians Of Saratoga, Doctor Del.Giacco, Doctor Ying, Norman, Bill and all entire staff, Elaine Williams and the staff at Internal Medicine, for all their hard work and never giving up on Dorothy.   Also, thank you to our Lutheran Church of Glens Falls family for all your prayers, cards and warm hugs. Thank you, Pastor Wagner, for all your prayers. Our Thank you to Jennifer and Andy Garti, Robin Marla and Jamie Burleigh, for your help. Dorothy was a very loved lady and will be deeply missed by all.  A very special thanks to my husband, James Derrick for his unconditional love and making sure our Mom had all that she needed.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on January 12, 2019 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepperd of Glens Falls.

Following the services, there will be a gathering downstairs at the church, to celebrate Dorothy’s life.
