GALWAY – Janice Burch reached out and lovingly grasped her husband’s hand and entered heaven August 31, 2013. She was a resident at Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga and after a long illness has now been received into the loving arms of those who have gone before her.
Janice was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Eva Jarvis, born Christmas Day, 1927, in Feeder Dam, Glens Falls. She attended Glens Falls school, and upon graduation worked at the Continental Insurance Company. She married the love of her life, Raymond Burch on May 14, 1950, and moved to North Hebron. After a few years of working for a local farmer, Ray and Janice bought a farm of their own in North Hebron and worked side by side, along with Ray’s father, Jay Burch and several of his brothers. Ray died in 1969, but Janice and her family continued to work the farm until 1978, when Janice and her youngest daughter moved to West Mountain Road to live near her beloved brother, Marshall Jarvis.
After several years, Janice relocated to Ballston Spa, then Amsterdam, and eventually had a home in East Galway where she resided until August 2011 when she became a resident of the Wesley Rehabilitation in Saratoga Springs.
Janice was a meticulous worker, always decorating her home and baking wonderful meals for her family. As they were growing up, she sewed all the clothing for her four daughters, whose names all began with the letter “K”, and was an accomplished seamstress and artisan, making crafts for local shops for many years. She was an active member of any church she attended, including being choir director at North Hebron Baptist Church, singing in the choir at Truthville Baptist Church and was an elder at her current church, West Mountain Community Church.
In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by her husband Raymond, as well as her beloved brothers, Richard and Marshall Jarvis.
She is survived by her four loving daughters, Kathy Mason and husband, Roger of Shoreham, VT, Kim Meade and husband, Charles of Glens Falls, Kristy Maille and husband, Stephen of Hudson Falls, and Kendra Curtis and husband, Jay of Amsterdam and her sisters, Jeannine Monroe and Dolores Williams, both of Glens Falls. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Wendy, Bill and Raymond Mason, Gabrielle Higgins, Ashley Meade, Nicholas and Jessica Maille, and Christopher and Kylie Curtis as well as six great grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
