Barbara A. Wheeler

Barbara Anne Wheeler of Hartford passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 after a long illness.

Born on March 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Anna (DeGraff) Turner.

Barbara married Randy Wheeler on May 4, 1985.

She worked for General Electric in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward for many years until she was forced to leave due to her health.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Edward and Roger, and her sisters, Jean Meyers and Dorothy Durham.

She is survived by her husband, Randy; her two sons, Kevin (Sue) Dufour of Whitehall, with grandchildren, Cole, Kenny, Kevin and Jeff; and Donald (Priscilla) Dufour of Benson, Vermont, with grandchildren, Terry, Shelby and Lakeisha; a step-son, Mark Wheeler of Gansevoort, with grandson Austin; the father of her sons, Donald (Rosemary) Dufour of Queensbury; a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Joanne) Meyers of Florida; a brother, Allie (Raeanne) Turner of Kentucky; sister-in-law Marion Turner of Rutland, Vermont; sister-in-law, Veronica Turner of Whitehall; sister, Helen Turner of South Carolina; and a sister, Lois Patten of Hudson Falls; along with many nieces and nephews.

At Barbara’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s name may be made either to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY  12205 or the Northeast Kidney Foundation, 22 Colvin Avenue, Albany, NY  12206, or to the Hartford Volunteer Fire Company,  P.O. Box 121, Hartford, NY 12838.

We also give our greatest thanks and love to Mary Lou Wood, who not only taught us home dialysis, but also set an unbeatable standard for compassionate care, dedication, patience and outspoken advocate for patients entrusted to her care.
