SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Betty M. (Blodgett) Balfour, 88, of Pine Road in South Glens Falls and also a longtime resident of Fenimore, died on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born March 28, 1928 in Sudbury, VT. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Blodgett and Dorothea (Humiston) Taggart.
At the age of eight she moved to New York State with her family. In 1945, Betty married Ralph Balfour and they resided in Fenimore for 55 years. Ralph passed away in November of 2000.
Betty was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Surano, Evelyn McCauley and her husband, Paul and Betty’s brothers, Gilbert “Peter” Shortsleeves, Fredrick Shortsleeves and Joseph Shortsleeves; and her sister-in-law, Mary Snyder.
Survivors include her children, Donna Hickok and her husband, Leslie of Arizona, Ralph Daniel Balfour of Florida and Sandra Clark and her husband, James of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Christopher Hickok and his wife, Kathryn, James E. Clark, Jr. and his wife, Beth, Kassey Granger, Daniel Balfour and his wife, Stephanie and Craig Balfour and his wife, Brianne; 11 grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Gloria Shortsleeves; and her friends in the Bridge Club.
Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 Noon Friday at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, with Rev. Tony Childs, pastor, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the South Glens Falls.
