KINGSBURY – Robert Chesterman, 87, of Kingsbury, passed away peacefully on June 8th at Glens Falls Hospital, with his loving wife Delilah. Nieces Beth and Erin and sister in law Jill at his side.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of the late Marie and Fred Chesterman.
He attended Philadelphia Textile College, but was drafted into the army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan as an equipment depot specialist. After his discharge, he eventually went to work for the Glens Falls and Continental Insurance Companies. Before retirement he was a member of the Special Risk Unit in New York City.
Robert was a communicant of St. Mary’s-St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Hudson Falls, where he was an usher for many years and a member of the usher’s club. He and his wife did volunteer work with Catholic Charities and were named volunteers of the year in 2007 and attended a dinner hosted by Bishop Hubbard.
Robert was also a charter member of the Feeder Canal Alliance and worked with the clean-up crew. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls.
Robert loved to travel, canoe, golf and ski. He and his wife have been in every state except Hawaii, and every national park.
He is predeceased by his first wife Kastonza and his daughter Connie Newell.
Survivors include his wife of forty years, Delilah, his beloved granddaughter, Shauna Newell, his brother Gerry and many nieces and nephews
Friends may call from 4-to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13th at Carleton Funeral Home in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 14th at 1 pm, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Churcu, on the park, in Hudson Falls with The Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
His wife would like to thank Dr. Evans and Staff, Dr. Cooper, Dr. Lukaszewicz, Dr. Gray and Dr. Wasserman and ladies for their compassionate care over the years. She would also like to thank the doctors and staff at Glens Falls Hospital for their care and kindness.
