SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Richard James Humowitz, Sr., 77, of Pheasant Way, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on July 29, 1936, in New York City, he was the son of the late August and Sophia (Perahut) Humowitz.
Richard received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Rutgers University.
He served with the New Jersey National Guard.
In 1964 he married Virginia Chamberlain in Rumson, NJ.
Richard worked for ATT handling their advertising and sales. Upon moving to this area, he did the same thing for the General Electric Company in Schenectady.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls and enjoyed gardening, camping and trips with his family.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Peter Humowitz.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Virginia (Chamberlain) Humowitz of South Glens Falls; his children, Richard J. Humowitz, Jr. and his wife, Jeanine of Wilton, Michael Humowitz and his wife Jennifer of Wallingford, CT, Suzanne Humowitz of South Glens Falls, Matthew Humowitz and his wife, Meghann of Woodbury, CT and John Humowitz of Saratoga; his grandchildren Christian Humowitz, Nicholas Humowitz, Mikey Humowitz, Jack Humowitz, Collin Humowitz; and one nephew.
There are no calling hours.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls with the Rev. Tony Childs officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
