HUDSON FALLS – Philip J. Smith, Sr., 79, of Circular Drive, went into the arms of the Lord on Monday, December 1, 2014, at his home.
Born November 10, 1935 in Kingsbury, he was the son of the later Jim and Ellen (Lewis) Smith.
Philip graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1953.
On September 8, 1956, he married Phyllis Maranville at the Gospel Lighthouse Church by the Reverend Canterbury. They met in 1953, through activities at the church.
Philip was employed by General Electric for 38 years at the Hudson Falls and Fort Edward plants. He also drove school bus for Hudson Falls School for 15 years, where he was known for being strict but fair to his passengers.
He was a car enthusiast, who loved to drive anything. Philip had a 1983 Olds and a 1973 Grand Prix. He enjoyed watching his New York Yankee’s baseball and had an impressive hat collection, that was only rivaled by his son’s collection. He loved his family most of all and was protective of them. Philip was a lifelong member of the Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hudson Falls. He was devoted to his faith and his church. Philip had a passion for his faith in the Lord.
Besides his parents, Philip was predeceased by his daughter, Joan Marie Duckett, and his sister, Mary Louise Fish.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Smith of Hudson Falls; his son, Philip Smith, Jr. and his wife, Tana of Stillwater; his six grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Brett Smith, Sarah Vannier, Ashley Wade, Jessica Duckett, and Joshua Duckett; his great grandchild, Avante Duckett; his nephew, Neal Fish; and his cousins “The Smith Brothers”.
There will be no calling hours.
At the family’s request, a private gathering will be held for the immediate family.

A private burial will be held at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

I worked with Phil at the General Electric . Phil was a great Foremen and very fair. I live in Clearwater Florida and moved here 14 years ago and still retired from GE. I know that Phil will be missed.
