FORT EDWARD – Marjorie “Anne” (Killian) Brock, 90, of Fort Edward, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Fort Hudson Health Center in Fort Edward.
Born on January 19, 1929, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Marjorie (Garrity) Killian.
Anne was the 1946 Valedictorian of Hudson Falls High School. Following high school, she attended The College of St. Rose, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in French. She had an enthusiasm for learning that never waned. A dictionary and a well-worn set of Encyclopedias were close at hand as a quick reference to solve any question of fact or to help her children with a homework assignment.
Anne taught French and English at Windham High School, where she met her future husband, who was also a teacher. On December 29, 1951, she married Herbert Brock at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. He passed away in 2005, after 53 years of marriage.
Mom taught school until her family started to expand and then she stayed home to take care of us. We loved being at home with Mom, even when it was because we were home sick from school. During those times, to make us feel better, she would play our favorite games and make her amazing homemade eggnog. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who made our birthdays and all of the holidays special. Grammy was known for having a ready supply of Disney and Shirley Temple movies that she enjoyed watching with her grandchildren. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor that made her so much fun to be around. She always had a ready smile and carried herself with effortless kindness. We will miss her dearly.
During her life, she devoted herself to helping others. Anne was a member of the Hospital Guild, the Glens Falls Association for the Blind and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and volunteered at Fort Hudson Nursing Home. Her faith was very important to her. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a Lector at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.
Anne was a very outgoing and social person. She looked forward to her weekly bridge games, played every Thursday with the other ACC faculty spouses, monthly lunches with her high school group and, in her younger years, a Friday or Saturday night out to dinner and dancing with her husband. In later years, Herb and Anne enjoyed winters spent in Florida with close friends, Joyce and Glenn Spoor and summers on Lake George with their dear friends, Carol and Ron Moss.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Brock, her daughter, Kathleen Brock Knipe in 2006, her brother, Joseph Killian, her sisters-in-law, Ellen Killian and Jean Killian, her brother, John Killian and her brother-in-law, Jack Hogan.
She is survived by her children, James Brock and his wife, Kit, Robert Brock and his wife, Monique, Jeanne Barber, Thomas Brock and his wife, Marie, Peter Brock and his wife, Cindy, Marjorie Layden and her husband, Mike; her grandchildren, Matthew Twardy (Michele), Rebecca Twardy (Ben), Nicholas Brock, Genevieve Hammer (Patrick), Isabelle Brock, Gregory Brock, Gabrielle Brock, Jeannette Oduro (Jeff), Kerri Sanzone (Matt), Tom Barber (Elisia), Justin Perry, Curtis Perry (Christina), Emily Blouin (Ethan), Patrick Brock, Megan Kalvert (Brett), Chelsea Belchem (Stuart), Nick Brock (Sara), Brock Layden, Margie Layden, Jackie Layden and Sean Layden; several great-grandchildren, her siblings, Jeanne Hogan and Robert Killian; and several nieces and nephews.
