HUDSON FALLS – Marie A. “Mimmer” Livingston, 77 of Main Street, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2016, at home, with her loving family by her side, after a long illness.
Born on September 12, 1938 in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Olaf Pedersen Sr. from Norway and Bertha (Chenier) Pedersen.
She was raised in Fenimore and Hudson Falls and attended St. Paul’s School. She graduated in 1955 from Hudson Falls High School at age 16.
She worked for the NY Telephone Company as an operator, at General Electric and Native Textiles for many years.
Marie held great pride in the nomination of being crowned the “Queen of General Electric”, where she was chosen over 22 other nominees. In 1960, at the age of 21, she was crowned for her Beauty, Poise and Personality in front of over 400 attendees at the Queensbury Hotel.
She was captain and pitcher for women’s fast-pitch softball league for Duncan Blue Stables and who won the tournament in the league. She also was pitcher for the men’s all-star team under the lights in their last game.
Marie was captain for the Women’s Pool League for 4 years for the Homestead Tavern and was the women’s top pool player in 1973. She enjoyed all sports and had 5 trophies for tennis, several trophies for 1st place in baseball, and a trophy for the most valuable player. She received 6 trophies in Women’s Pool League and 1 trophy for sportsmanship for substituting on the men’s softball league, when they were short a player.
In her younger years, she enjoyed riding and driving a big Harley motorcycle and drag racing with her 1950 Ford (Ha Ha). She completed Judo classes at the YMCA and had the strength of most men!
On March 1, 1974, she married Harry V. Livingston, III in Hudson Falls and they were together for over 41 years. She tamed the “wild stallion”. They had many adventurous fishing trips, cookouts, clambakes and loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marie was a well-known artist. She went to an Instructional Art School and took classes with Jim Palmer and portrait classes from Ron Peer. She was inspired by Bob Ross on TV. She painted over 200 paintings! She sold many paintings, but also enjoyed giving many as gifts to family and friends. She also displayed her paintings in many exhibitions and establishments.
She loved making crafts of any kind; crocheting, jewelry, flower arrangements, may baskets, children’s crafts, wreaths, ceramics, collecting antiques, etc. You name it, she did it! She also loved going to the casino! (ca-ching!) She was a poet and had written over 200 poems, songs, and a children’s book.
She also had a pumpkin stand at her home for many years, with the whole yard decorated and included some of her crafts. She was well known as the “Pumpkin Lady”.
Marie loved playing the guitar, banjo, piano and singing.
She had many achievements in life but #1 was raising her 4 children, whom she loved very much. She loved to listen to all her children and grandchildren sing karaoke, and was very proud of them and always said “that each one they sang, was their best!” She was proud to be a mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother and proud of her Norwegian heritage.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her four brothers, Olaf “Pete” Pederson Jr, Buddy Pederson, Bert Pedersen, Merle Pedersen, her two dogs, “Sissy” and “Bear” (her little buddy, she enjoyed 13 years with), and her good friend and adopted 2nd mother, Edith Hall.
She is survived by her husband, Harry V. Livingston III; her son, Tony Twiss of Hudson Falls; her daughter, Kim Fenton and her husband, John of Hudson Falls; her daughter, Sue Davis and her husband, John of Gansevoort; and her daughter, Sherry Bickford and her husband, Sean of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Sheena Gordon and her husband, Seth, Shannon Fenton, Dylan Fenton and Kera, Dana Davis Dunn, John Davis Jr. and his wife, Nicole, Nick Davis, Alyssa Davis, John David”Schuyler” Earl Jr. and Xander Bickford; her great-grandchildren, Troy Schusteritsch, John Davis 3rd, Chloe Davis, Jaxson Osborne, Jaslyn Osborne, and Kole Maynard: a very special friend, Sandy Woodcock (the sister she never had) and special friends, Joyce and Bill Guilder and Pat and Jobie Breason. She also left behind many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
