SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Madeline C. Campbell, 77, of Ryder Ave, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by all of her loving children, on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Born on August 20, 1941, in Minerva, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Alice (Morse) Secor.
On August 6, 1966, she married James Campbell. He passed away on April 6, 1984, after 18 wonderful years of marriage.
Madeline was employed as a nursing aide at the Glens Falls Hospital for 27 years. She loved this job and helping those in need. Madeline made many friends through her work. During her 27 years, she worked in the cancer wing for 15 years. She made every family who came through those doors feel peaceful, because she herself understood them, having gone through it herself. While serving on the cancer wing, she was fortunate to have worked with her best friend, Sue Long. They shared both happy and sad times, leaning on each other.
Madeline was a mother to every child in the family and also in the neighborhood. They came for warmth, food, safety, and every once in a while, the strap. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and crocheting blankets for everyone in the family. Madeline filled her children’s life with adventure, fun and crazy stories. The center of her life was her family. Madeline loved the times spend with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an awesome lady, who will be missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Carl Campbell and Robert Secor; two grandsons, Mike VanLew and Nate Brown, two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Secor and two sisters, Leona Warrington and Elizabeth Campbell.
She is survived by her children, Mary VanLew, Barbara Campbell and her significant other, Steve Briere, Betty Adams and her husband, Robert, James R. Campbell and John Campbell and his wife, Theresa; her grandchildren, Jamie VanLew, Carl Campbell, Christine Campbell, Curtis Campbell, Dr. Sarah Secor-Jones, Melanie Campbell-Tracey, NP, Nicole Campbell, Heather Secor, Cassandra Higgins, Matthew Secor, John Campbell, Jr., Cory Higgins, Adam Campbell; several great grandchildren; and soon to be a great-great grandson; her sisters, Patricia Tucker, Constance Younes, Asa Younes, Mary Baker and Evelyn Goodspeed; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Madeline’s life will be later in the Summer at Minerva Town Beach.
