HUDSON FALLS- Ludwig. J ”Buck or Joe” Winans, 90, of Hudson Falls, died on February 11, 2018 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born March 1, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edgar and Minnie (Geiger) Winans.
Joe was honorably discharged from the army in January of 1947.
On January 5, 1949, he married the love of his life Ida Mae Montgomery.
Joe was a union carpenter and millwright who worked out of the local in South Glens Falls until he retired. He was very particular about his work and become an excellent finish carpenter.
He kept a boat on Lake George called Fine Risk, which provided many years of enjoyment, as he and Ida had picnics on many of the islands.
After his retirement he enjoyed many winters in Sebring, Florida until his wife Ida M. Winans died on June 11, 2005. After she passed life, was not the same. He continued to go to Florida for the winter to stay away from the cold weather but he missed his Ida.
He was predeceased by three siblings, Edward Winans of Glens Falls, Rose Lemp of Long Island and Minnie Constant of Whitehall.
He is survived by his children, Claire Winans-Keech and her husband Curtis of Hudson Falls and Sebring, Florida and Daniel E. Winans and his wife, Cindy of Yuma Arizona. Grandchildren Sarah J. Doty, Emily Portuese and her husband, Rick, Collette Thompson and her husband, Nathan and Ashley A. Pilakowski and her husband, Vinnie; along with several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Debbie Pauquette at the Holbrook Adult Home for her compassionate care. He thoroughly enjoyed her home and she made his last months there so happy.

Joe requested that there be no calling hours, and arrangements are under the direction of Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
