HUDSON FALLS – Lois Ruth Wheeler, 89, of 153 John Street, Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully after a short illness Tuesday, January 27 surrounded by her loving family.
Lois was born November 9, 1925, in Fort Ann, to Fredrick Clayton Howard Sr. and Kathyl Francis (Patterson) Howard.
Lois met the love of her life, Amos Wheeler, and they were united in marriage on October 23, 1944. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Lois was a housewife her entire life, and raised 9 children.
She was the matriarch of her family and ran a tight ship.
Lois enjoyed reading, playing dice, word search puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and old westerns on TV, taking rides to Ponderosa in Rutland Vt, talking with her daughter Sandy every morning and laughing with her daughter-in-law Barbara, whom she had a very special bond with, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially her grandson Jeff.
Lois was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Marilyn, Alice, and Fred.
She is survived by her husband Amos, her children Jeanne Morris of Hudson Falls, Betty Beal and her husband Tim, of Hudson Falls, Sandra Potter and her husband Daniel, of Las Vegas Nevada, Kathyl Lyons and her husband Tom, of South Carolina, Gary Wheeler of Glens Falls, Howard Wheeler of Fort Ann, Lori Eggleston and her companion, Clark Condon of Moreau, Randy Wheeler and his wife Barb, of Hartford, Jeffrey Wheeler and his wife April, of Argyle, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great, grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Beatrice Howard at the Pines in Glens Falls.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.
At 3 p.m. Sunday (Following the calling hours) a service will be conducted at the funeral home with the Rev. Patti Girard., pastor of the Hartford Yoked Parish, officiating.
Burial, in the spring, will take place at Brown Cemetery in the town of Fort Ann.
Lois’s family suggested that memorial donations in her memory be made to the American cancer Society, 959 State Rte 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804.
