HUDSON FALLS – John Alvin Harrington, 87, of Ferry Street, passed away on, Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at his home with his family by his side
Born on September 1, 1931, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Elmer, Jr. and Margaret (Mott) Harrington.
John was untied in marriage to Patricia Bradley on April 9, 1948, at Patricia’s family home in Hudson Falls. They were married 57 wonderful years until Patricia’s passing on June 25, 2005.
He was employed by G.E. in Hudson Falls for years. John then worked for Decora in Fort Edward a few years before he started working for the Hudson Falls Water Department. After many years and making many friends, John retired from the water department.
John enjoyed watching NASCAR and restoring old cars. He restored a Model A, and the last car he restored was a 1931 Ford Model B. He loved raising his six children. He took pleasure in caring for his home and garden; John was proud of his property. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to be quite a jokester. John liked camping with his family in Whiting, VT.
In addition to his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by his brothers: James, William, and Robert Harrington, and his special friend, Bernice Kelly.
Survivors include his children, Gail and Charles Leonard of Florida and their children, Amber Kopchick, Jennifer, Christopher and Morgan Tougas and Andrew Leonard, and grandchildren, Emma, Zoey, Isiah and Trisha Leonard and Maddie; Gary and Theresa Harrington of Hartford and their children, Tina Harrington and Dick Fisher and son, James, Sue and Matt Liebig, and great grandchildren, Tyler, Ezra and Danica, Deborah Bacon and Shamous Kelly of Argyle and her children, Christine, Daniel and Joshua Bacon, Michael Harrington and Beth Massey of South Glens Falls, and their children, John and Tieka Harrington, and great grandchildren Jillian Janessa, Aaron Harrington, and great grandchildren, Emma and Kailin and a new baby, and Arnold and Alex Smith, Robin Harrington of Hudson Falls and her son, Grant Smaldone; and Mark and Karen of Hudson Falls and his son, Trent Harrington; his brother Joseph Harrington of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be Friday, at 11 a.m., the funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his granddaughter, Christine for the care, cupcakes and milkshakes. They would also like to thank all the staff from hospice, especially Stacy, Kathy and Patty. Tricia Leonard from the meals program volunteers and all the friends and neighbors who helped to keep him home and cared for him.

So sorry for the family loss, though I never met John which I deeply regret, I’m sure he was all as described in the obituary, a loving father, grandfather, husband and more. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad, He was a great Neighbor and good guy to know and Dale, Gary,Debbie Mark and Robin were just the part of your family I was pleased to know.
I want you all to know that in my life only a few friends and their families the best people to know. Your dad taught us about cards and trucks and finding hiding spots at the Mill. Took me three years to find it!
