Jean Backus

Backus youngerBackus currentHARTFORD-Ellen “Jean” Backus, 73, of State Route 40, passed away surrounded by her loved ones, on Monday May 21, 2018, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on January 22, 1945 in Hartford Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice Daviditus.

Jean attended Fort Edward High School and soon after graduation, she married Curtis Backus on April 13, 1964.

Many would remember Jean as the In- School Suspension Monitor at Granville Central High School.  After her stint at the high school, she worked alongside her husband, Curt, at their auto body business in Hartford.

Jean loved camping with her family in the north country and going to yard sales with anyone who would go with her. She adored her dog, Ginger.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Backus of Hartford; her four children, Curtis “Skip” Backus, Jr. of Granville, Clifford Backus of Hartford, Mazella “Missie” Backus of Hartford, Mark Backus and his wife, Denise of Granville; nine grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren; and Angie Panoushek, whom Jean considered a member of the family, her close friend and caregiver.

Friends may call on Friday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday following the calling hours.

Burial will follow at the Morningside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests making a donation in Jean’s name to Argyle Emergency Squad, Inc., 15 Sheridan Street, Argyle, NY  12809
