James J. Butler

FORT ANN – James “Jim” Joseph Butler, 72, of Taylor Woods Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on October 1, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late James W. and Frances (Napoli) Butler.

Following high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  He was so proud to have served his country.

On October 18, 1997, he married the love of his life, Carol Coats.  They have been married for over 20 wonderful years.

For 32 ½ years, Jim was a correctional officer at Great Meadows, retiring on August 29, 2002.

After his retirement, his wife, Carol, surprised him with a home in Fort Pierce, Florida.  They lived in sunny Florida for five years before moving back to this area to be near family.  Jim and Carol set up house on Taylor Woods Road in a home that he built with his bare hands.

He was a man of many talents who loved to take care of the yard.  Jim also enjoyed riding on his motorcycle and riding around on his fourwheeler.

In his younger years, he was a member of the Shriners and more recently, Jim loved riding his motorcycle with the Patriot Riders.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol Butler of Fort Ann; his children Matt Butler and Kim Butler; his brother, David Butler and his wife, Lee of Florida; his nephews, David “Chip” Butler of Queensbury; his two nieces, Trinica Rigg and her husband, Chris of New Jersey and Tonya Eckart and her husband, Art of Dunkirk, MD; his special uncle, Ronald Jarvis and his wife, Ann of Kingsbury; his aunts, Irene Jarvis of Kingsbury and  Janice Jarvis of West Fort Ann; his father in law, Kenneth K. Coats and his wife, Daisy of Granville; brother in law, Kenneth E. Coats and his wife, Rebecca of West Fort Ann; his niece Heather J.   and Kristopher March and their daughter, Jim’s great niece, Isabella March of Queensbury; a special neighbor, Bill Camp  (who was like a son to him) and his wife, Stacey of West Fort Ann and their children, Tess and William; and his very special pet, Maxine.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 16, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Hudson Falls American Legion Post # 574, 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

Patriot Guard Riders of New York will process with the family to the Graveside Services, which will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 17, at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, with Rev. Mark Bailey, officiating.

James family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
