QUEENSBURY – James H. “Jim” Flower, 66, of Sunnyside North, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 25, 1948, in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John F. Flower, Sr. and Josephine Willamena (Merrill) Flower.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Queensbury High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Jim retired from the Navy in 1987 after 20 years of active duty, retiring as an NDT Nuclear Welding Inspector.
On May 14, 1967, he married Joyce Hernandez at St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls. They had been married 47 years at the time of his passing.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Jim was employed as a steel worker with Rozell Industries. He loved hunting, fishing and watching everyone enjoy their time at his home on Lake Sunnyside. He especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews at the lake. Jim also enjoyed going on drives in the Adirondacks.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his baby sister, Janet (Flower) Shearer.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Flower of Lake Sunnyside; his children, Joanna (Jacqueline) Duncan and her husband, Cary, of Culver City, CA and Michele Shpakowsky and her husband, Philip, of Alberta Canada; his grandchildren, Josiah, Jedidiah, Trinity and Moriah Shpakowsky; his sister, Joan (Flower) Aldous of Lake Sunnyside; his brother, John Flower of Hudson, NY; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 2 to 5 pm, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Glens Falls, with the Rev. Paul Wagner, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater, NY.
