HUDSON FALLS – Helene Julia (O’Brien) Heed, 90, died peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2014, of complications from Alzheimer ’s disease at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility. In her death, she gave the gift of life by donating her body to Albany Medical College.
Born on August 18, 1924, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late John and Lena (McKinney) O’Brien.
Helene was a graduate of Fort Edward High School and Albany Business College.
She retired from McPhillips Insurance Agency. Helene enjoyed a long retirement with her beloved husband, Edward, until he passed away in 2000. They enjoyed traveling, walking, golfing and visiting with family and friends.
Helene was also a longtime volunteer at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary “Sis” Bromley and her brother, John O’Brien.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Heed and her spouse, Lori Blair and Joan Tierney; her grandson, Christopher Tierney; many nieces and nephews; and her sister in law, Jackie O’Brien.
In the spring of 2015, there will be memorial calling hours scheduled.
Helen will be buried at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward at a later date.
Her family would like to express their profound gratitude to the loving staff at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, where she received excellent care during her last few years of life.
