GLENS FALLS – Helen H. Sutliff, 86, of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 25, 1928 in New Russia, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Ellsworth) Daha.
On June 5, 1946, Helen married Raymond M. Sutliff at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. They were married 62 wonderful years, when he passed away on March 16, 2009.
Helen had many interests throughout her life. In her younger years, she loved to bowl and was quite good at it, winning several trophies. Helen also enjoyed watching wrestling and working on word search books to keep her mind active. At one time, she taught a ceramics class, where she shared her talent of working with ceramics. She was also was a wonderful seamstress and a creator of beautiful quilts she made for her grandchildren. Everyone in her family has at least one item that she made with love, for them. Although Helen did many things in her life, her center was her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who will be missed.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her two daughters, Lorraine St. Clair and Linda Steves; her son in law, Wesley Steves; and her three grandsons, Timothy Royce, Gary Steves and Lewis Smith.
Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Layton and her husband, Bruce of Fort Edward and Carol Russell and her husband, Wade of Queenbury; her two sons, Wesley Sutliff and his wife, Tonia of Lake George and Scott Sutliff of Glens Falls; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her brother in law, Donald Sutliff of Fort Edward; her son in law, John St. Clair of Argyle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff on Tower 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital and also Dr. Eric Pillemer for the special care and compassion given to Helen during her illness.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to CR Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
Carol, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom, she was a sweet Lady..i will never forget all the nice things she did for us as kids, taking us for ice cream, swimming, to the drive in’s and what a wonderful cook she was,,,She and your dad are together again!! I love you, and my thoughts and prayers are with you..
