HUDSON FALLS – Gary Pickett, 78 of Hudson Falls NY and Port Orange Fl went to be with his son Keith, his sister Joan, and his parents Robert and Gertrude on June 20, 2017 after a very long hard battle with COPD.
Gary was born June 19,1939 in Glens Falls NY He was a member of the Hudson Falls class of 58. On July 16,1960 he married his High School sweetheart Patricia Flynn. Gary started working at Knobby’s of Hudson Falls while still in High School. In 1982 he started his own business; Gary Pickett Music and Games. He sold his business and retired in 2001 and he and Pat became “Snowbirds” and enjoyed 13 winters in Port Orange Fl. In 2013 they moved to Florida year round.
Gary was predeceased by his son Keith, his parents, and his sister Joan Hanley. Gary is survived by his loving wife Pat, his daughter Kathy (David) Cerny, his grandchildren Cory Pickett, Jesse Pickett, Brooke Cerny and his honorary granddaughter Lianna Rivette. He is also survived by brothers George (Charlene), David (Linda) his sister Gloria Pratt, His brothers in law Thomas (Barbara)Hanley ,Mike (Jean) George, (Marcie) Flynn. , Courtenay (Carolyn)Hall Sisters in law Mary Flynn , Gloria Flynn. and Betsy Flynn. he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gary enjoyed classic cars, especially his 56 Ford, NASCAR, Hunting and his faithful companion his dog Gizmo. He was always happiest when his family was gathered around him.
At Gary’s request there will be no calling hours other than the small service that was held @ the Hospice Chapel in Port Orange right after his passing.
Gary requested that anyone wishing to do something in memory of him PLEASE STOP SMOKING If you don’t smoke please help someone you care about quit.
Gary’s family wishes to thank The Halifax Health Hospice of Daytona Beach Florida for all the support and help given to Gary & Pat the last two years. Without their help Gary would not have been able stay at home. Also, thanks to our daughter Kathy and our son in law Dave, Betty Padgett, Tom & Barb Hanley, Jodi and Jon Roberts and Peter Doty who all went above and beyond to help us through Gary’s illness.
