SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Evanna (Church) Welsh, 86, of Feeder Dam Road, went into the arms of the Lord, with her beloved companion, John Basher at her side, on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on January 30, 1927 in Petersburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Helen (Miller) Church.
In 1945, she married Leonard F. Welsh. He passed away in May 1985.
Evanna enjoyed Irish Music, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, yard work and being outdoors. She loved flowers, watching birds and assembling puzzles. The center of her life was her family. Evanna loved staying home and raising her three children.
Evanna met her longtime love, John “JB” Basher at Holy Cross Church in Salem, where they both served as greeters. They have been together and great partners for 14 years. She was a great friend and a lovely woman. Evanna was a very strong person and demonstrated this strength, during her long courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved aunt, Hazel (Miller) Sweet and several other family members
Survivors include her wonderful companion, John Basher of South Glens Falls; her children, Jean Smith and her husband, Bruce of Wilton, John Michael Welsh of Glens Falls and Margaret Clayton of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Suanne McLenithan, William Linendoll and Eric Linendoll; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; close family friends, John Basher, Jr. and his sons, Nicholas and Dylan; and also Katherine Barlow and her husband, Richard and their daughter, Heather.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 247 Main Street in Salem.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Salem.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 247 Main Street, Salem, New York 12865.
Arrangements are under the care of Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
