Ella Frances McGowan

GANSEVOORT – Ella Frances McGowan, 89 of Gansevoort, passed away Wednesday morning, October 2nd, 2024 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home after a very brief illness.

Born on March 23rd, 1935, in Ballston Spa, NY. She was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle Bolton. Ella was raised by Ma (Mary) and Pa (Jimmy) Smith. She often spoke of the fond memories she had with her siblings on the farm. She married the late Edward Charles McGowan on April 26, 1953 and while raising her family became a lifelong area resident of Gansevoort, NY.

Ella was a quiet woman who lived a simple life and was very grateful for her family and friends. She was a very compassionate person especially for those in need. Throughout her years she provided exceptional care to her loved ones. In doing so she became known as that person who you wanted help from. Many families reached out to her knowing their loved ones would be taken care of with dignity and love. They all would become cherished friends embedded in her heart.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brothers; William Bolton, Charles Bolton, Samuel Bolton, Robert Bolton, Herbert Tuttle, sisters; Betty Hempstead and Elizabeth Bolton. Her good friend, Louise Groome, who she loved and missed dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons; Edward McGowan Jr. of Gansevoort, William (Teryl) McGowan of Gansevoort, Kim (Kelli) McGowan of Glens Falls, a (son from another mother) Patrick Stacavich of Houston, TX, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings; Tom Tuttle and Louise Price and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the Gansevoort Cemetery in Gansevoort.

Ella’s favorite pastime was Bingo. The family would like to acknowledge her good friend, Barb Bahida for being her bingo buddy. The time you spent together was so special and gave her such pleasure!

Lastly, Ella’s family would like to thank all the staff at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided Ella during her illness and will be forever grateful. Also, to Jean O’Neil for her compassion and comfort she provided not only to Ella during this difficult time but to her family as well.

    Aunt Ella you were a great aunt to all of us. You didn’t have much but you always did what you could for everyone Now you will be with all the family in heaven give them all a big hug for me Tell my Mom and Dad I miss them RIP aunt Ella love you

    I am so very sorry to the McGowan family for their loss of their mom.
    Ella was my mom’s table mate at Fort Hudson Nursing Home. I loved seeing and visiting with her several times a week. Ella was so sweet and kind and always made me laugh and smile. May God embrace her and keep her in his loving arms. I will miss you sweet Ella. May your soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
