Eleanor M. (Johnson) Harris

QUEENSBURY – Eleanor M. (Johnson) Harris, 96, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2018.

Born September 1, 1922, in Johnsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Hyde) Johnson.

Eleanor graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1940, and in 1943 she married Clarence Palmer in South Glens Falls.  Her husband was killed overseas during World War II.

On August 4, 1946 she married George A. Harris Jr.  Her desire was to be a homemaker.  After the children were in school, she worked in the Queensbury Middle School Cafeteria until her retirement. Eleanor loved her job. She was someone who liked keeping busy and she enjoyed spending time around the children.

George and Eleanor brought up his younger brother, Thomas, who was included in the family after the death of his father.  They also helped to raise their grandson, Robbie.

Her life was spent caring for her family and helping neighbors.  Eleanor enjoyed cooking and baking with her granddaughters, teaching them her secret recipes and techniques.  She loved to crochet and shared her expertise by making crib blankets and hot pads for many family members and friends.  Eleanor loved spending time with her special friends, including those in the nursing home, The Pines. She would visit them weekly with her close friend, Valerie Lockhart.  When Eleanor was able, she was involved in the work of the former Glens Falls Free Methodist Church and the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, including Bible study and music.

Besides her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her husbands, Clarence Palmer and George A. Harris Jr.; a daughter, Thelma J Sherman; a son, George A. Harris; and grandson, Robbie Harris.

Survivors include her three daughters, Marge Dresser- Cummings and her husband, Jay of Queensbury, Marie Williams of Hadley, Ruth Walker and her husband, Dale of Queensbury; one son, Virgil Harris and his wife, Sheila of Queensbury; she also has grandchildren, namely, Tracy Manell, Amy Zeh, Warren Lunt, George Harris, Julia Smith, Rakel Ball, Kirsten Olden, Adam and Michelle Walker; and several great grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Warren Center Nursing Home for their wonderful care and support.

Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls, New York.

Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Nancy Burrows of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating.

Graveside services will be private and held at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, 250 River Street, Warrensburg, New York 12885, or to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, New York 12110.
