HUDSON FALLS – Edward H. Kennedy, 66, passed away, Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital with his son-in-law by his side.
Born on August 17, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Cornelius Edward and Starr (Hamelin) Kennedy. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1965 and went to work at Montgomery Ward. From there he got a job as a printer at The Glens Falls Times and worked there until it folded in 1971. On April 16, 1971, Ed joined a handful of employees at TV Data, which was founded by James West. The company evolved and was sold, and Ed evolved with it, from working as a printer with hot metal on a linotype machine to being a manager in charge of hardware for Tribune Media Services, Inc. Ed made many good friends over the years at his places of work.
On June 1, 1968, he married Linda J. Mastrangelo, at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. They celebrated their 45th anniversary this year.
Ed enjoyed playing and watching sports. He played football in high school and then with the Greenjackets, after graduation. For many years, he played basketball and volleyball at the “Y” and recreational softball in the spring. Ed loved watching all of his daughter’s volleyball, basketball and softball games and track meets. His favorite professional teams were the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the Washington Redskins.
Ed was a great hunting and fishing enthusiast. For a time he went rabbit hunting with his basset hound, Beau, and for many years stalked deer with his rifle or bow. One of his bucks is in the New York State Record Book.
Ed liked to travel to Maine and Assateague Island, MD, where he camped with his wife and daughter for many years. There were lots of trips to Dallas, TX to stay with his sister, Helen, and her family and to the west coast to visit his sister, Mary Starr, and her husband Dick, in Temecula, CA. However, Ed’s favorite destination was wherever his daughter was living, whether in San Francisco, Portland, OR or Sacramento.
Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his infant son, Edward Patrick, his sister, Helen (John) Gehan and his brothers–in-law, Stanley Anderson and David Mastrangelo.
Ed is survived by his wife, Linda J. Kennedy; his daughter, Colleen M. Kennedy, and her husband, John Mounier; his sister, Mary Starr (J. Richard) Settelmayer; his brothers–in-law, Peter (Katharina) Mastrangelo and Edward Mastrangelo; his sister-in-law, Martha (Victor) Scripture; many cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends.
Special thanks go out to Dr. Amy Hogan-Moulton and Dr. Michael Layden, who took care of Ed and cared about him for years. Thank you also to the caring nurses and staff at the Renal Dialysis Center on Broad Street and at Glens Falls Hospital, Floors 3 West, ICU, and Tower 2.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, December, 23, 2013, at the Church of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s in Hudson Falls.
The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Church of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Restoration Fund, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the Renal Dialysis Center, 3 Broad Street Plaza, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
Linda & Colleen,
I read of Ed passing on line this morning and wanted to offer you both my condolences.
Ed and I were classmates at SMA back in the day. I always considered him one of my best friends. We played football together at that time. Ed and I also worked together in the warehouse at Wards. I left the area and we lost touch and that is my loss. He was a great man then and I sure believe a guy like him would never change.
Again accept my sympathy I will have Ed in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Nick Young
My thoughts and prayers are with the Kennedy family in this time of sorrow. I worked with Ed for many, many years at TV Data and had great respect for him as a manager, co-worker and a person. You will be missed Ed.
Colleen and Linda, we are so sorry for your loss, and are sending lots of love and support from Washington DC.
Such a loss of a great man and friend who touched the lives of so many.
May the time we shared with him remain in our hearts and souls and minds forever.
Dear Linda, Colleen, extended family and friends,
Our deepest sympathy in the passing of Ed. We will always remember him. He loved his family, and often spoke so highly of Colleen and all her accomplishments. Heaven has embraced another person who left us far too soon. May you be comforted by your memories. He will be truly missed by so many of us who loved him.

I worked with Ed for around 30 years–worked for him off and on a good part of that time. Never was there better company at meeting a crisis, at waging an argument, or just sitting around telling jokes and stories. I learned much from him and will miss his engaging manner, his grace under pressure, and his inquisitive intellect.
Linda and Family

Dear Linda and Colleen,
Chandra and I were both saddened to hear of Ed’s passing. Not only was Ed a wonderful friend, manager, and coworker, he was also an influence on my work and career at just the right time. Ed provided excellent guidance to a “young pup” who was in need of the occasional rolled-up newspaper. But, never in a harsh or mean way — and in time, he became a good friend and mentor. Wherever I went in my career, I told “Big Ed” stories, and thinking of those stories and the time spent at TVD, I smile.
It was indeed a privilege and an honor to know him, and I suspect I’ll still be telling stories about him for a long time to come. He was just that cool.
Condolences to the Kennedy family. May Jehovah the “God of Comfort” bring you comfort and peace at this difficult time (2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4). Your family are in our prayers.
My condolences to Ed’s family in their loss of a good man.
I played Greenjackets Football with Ed as well as volleyball and basketball at the Glens Falls YMCA
He was a good athlete and a great sport.
May he rest in peace.
With sincere sympathy,
Dick Leland
