HUDSON FALLS – Daniel Michael McCullen, 80, of Hudson Falls, passed away Tuesday evening, January 16, 2024, at his home. Born on March 7, 1943 in Granville, NY, he was a graduate of Harford Schools and son of the late William and Gertrude (Bushman) McCullen.
When he completed high school, Dan went to work for his father in the slate industry. He then went on to become a corrections officer where he worked for many years at several New York State penitentiaries, eventually retiring from Great Meadow in 1999 as a Captain.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hudson Falls and a member of the Glens Falls Elks Lodge # 81 in Queensbury. Dan loved to golf and spend time at the Racino in Saratoga Springs. In his later years, he liked woodworking and working with computers. Dan also liked to work on small engines and friends would stop by to have him solve their mechanical issues with their mower or snowblowers.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter, Danielle Campbell; his sisters, June Bartley, and Wilma Fenton: two brothers, Theodore McCullen and Robert McCullen; two half-brothers, Harry John Mulhall and Donald Mulhall; and a half-sister, Jean Danforth.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn R. McCullen; a son, Scott McCullen (Laurie) of Fort Edward; a daughter, Julianne Underwood (Alec) of Hudson Falls; a brother, R. Lynn McCullen (Joanne) of Black River, NY; a sister, Sandra Tatko of Middle Granville; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the Park in Hudson Falls with Rite of Committal to follow at St. Raphael Cemetery in Poultney, VT.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the SPCA of Upstate New York, 588 Queensbury Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804.

RIP Dan! Worked with Dan for many years and went to an annual Christmas dinner with other GMCF staff. He will be missed!
