HUDSON FALLS – Colette M. Smith, 75, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 17, 1942, in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Rita (Lussier) Rioux.
On May 29, 1981, she married Stephen Smith in Lake George.
Colette served many years as the Principal’s Secretary at the Middle School in Hudson Falls.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church where she enjoyed singing in the church folk group.
She thoroughly enjoyed traveling, the ocean, reading and tending to her garden. She especially enjoyed spending time and laughing with her cherished friends, the “CLAMS”. Most important to her was family dinners and holidays gatherings.
Survivors in addition to her loving husband of 36 years Stephen J. Smith of Hudson Falls; include her children, Polly Lathrop and her husband Pete, of Hebron, Lisa Hoitt and her husband Chris, of Manchester, NH, Steven VanAernem of Michigan, Betsy Merlow of Hudson Falls and Beth VanAernem of Portland, OR; her beloved grandchildren, Jamie Kingsley, Ryan Hudson, Taylor Grover, Sarah Merlow and Jessica Carbotti and her husband Joe; her beloved great grandchildren, Tabitha and Sabastian Iverson and Crispin Powers “Spin”; a sister, Denise Egan and her husband Bill of Agawam, MA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.
Memorial donations in Colette’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Very sorry to here of the passing of Colette, i remember her fondly from jr high scool and all the trouble she kept me out of.

Mr. Smith, Steven & Beth – It is with sadness I read of Colette’s passing. She was one of the kindest people I ever crossed paths with. Long ago I was her babysitter and I remember her always greeting me with a smile and kind words in middle school and as I got older. My deepest sympathy to you and your families.
