John O. LaCarte Sr.

HUDSON FALLS- John O. LaCarte Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

John was born on February 17, 1936 in Glens Falls, the youngest son of Joseph and Rosanna (Mayotte) LaCarte.

John worked at General Electric, Ciba Geigy and retired from BOCES in 2000. Anyone who met John will remember him as kind and generous- always willing to help family and friends.

He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour, listening to old music, watching Westerns, playing the Lotto and feeding the squirrels.  The most important thing to John was spending time with his wife and family.  His unconditional love and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

John and Phyllis got married on April 20, 1963 at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.  They have been married for 55 wonderful years.

John is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Joseph LaCarte, and Bernard LaCarte; his sisters, Lucille Welch, Aileen Fuss, Joyce LaCarte, Joan Platt and Patricia LaCarte; brothers-in-law, Dick Shevlin, Thomas Center, Sr, Link Welch and Fred Fuss; sisters-in-law, Patricia Shevlin, Wanda Center, Deborah LaPan, Ethel LaCarte and Virginia LaCarte.

Survivors include his loving wife, Phyllis (Center) LaCarte; his children, Lisa Green and her husband, Brian, Lynn Allen and her husband, Chris;  John Jr. and his wife, Dawn; his grandchildren, Brittany and her husband, Carl, Nicole, Rebekah, Riley and Brooke; his great grandchildren, Kira and Ella; his sister, Nanette Newell; his in-laws, Leon Center and wife, Marie, Joan Smith and her husband, Thomas, Mary Ann Center and Mike LaPan; and several nieces and nephews.

Per John’s request, there will be no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held for immediate family and friends at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gerard Abess, Dr. Charles Yun and the entire staff at C.R. Wood Cancer Center for the wonderful care, love and compassion given to John and his family.

Paul Andrew Reece, Sr.

HUDSON FALLS – Paul Andrew Reece, Sr., of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

Born on April 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Orel and Della Reece.

Paul was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School in 1955, where he loved playing sports.

He met his future wife at a roller rink.  Paul was a professional rollerskater, who won many medals and trophy’s while living in Buffalo.  He married the love of his life, Dawn Corlew on November 17, 1956.

After moving to this area, Paul began his working career at Glens Falls Insurance Company in data processing.  He continued his career in data processing at Native Textiles, formerly in Glens Falls as Manager of the computer division, retiring in 1997.

Along with his wife, he was a man of deep faith.  Paul was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  They never missed a Sunday service, even while traveling, he checked where services were being conducted.

Paul loved playing golf with his friends and when he was younger, enjoyed bowling in a league. Every morning, Monday through Friday at 7 a.m., he went to McDonald’s to have coffee with his friends.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family.   He deeply loved his grandson and great grandchildren and loved every minute he spent with them.  He was a fantastic, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nine brothers and sisters.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Dawn Reece of Hudson Falls; his son, Paul Reece, Jr. and his wife, Sherry of Gansevoort; his grandson, Jeffrey Reece and his wife, Vicki of South Glens Falls; his great grandchildren, identical twins, Makenzie and Kendra Reece, Eva Reece and Keene Reece, all of South Glens Falls; his brother in law, Edward Corlew, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Hudson Falls and their children, Sean, Michael and Kimberly and their spouses; several cousins; and many close friends that he considered family.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.

Alfred Marcantonio

QUEENSBURY- Alfred Marcantonio, 96, passed away on September 17, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on November 10, 1921 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Marcantonio.

Alfred graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1940.

He worked in the family barber shop and then joined the Air Force in 1942. He served in Sicily, North Africa and Italy as a radar plotter for the 12th Air Force from 1942 to 1945.

Alfred returned to the family barber shop. He was a barber for 78 years.

He met his wife, Marilyn Fisher in April of 1946 and by December of the same year they were married and spent 72 years together. They had two sons, Anthony “Tony” and Jeffrey Marcantonio.

Alfred left the family business and bought the shop in the Hotel Madden.  Later he opened his shop at home.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Tony Jr., Michael, Marie and her husband, Brian Bidwell; and their mother, Geraldine Marcantonio (Tony’s family). Jeffrey’s family is Christian, Jonathan, Robin and her husband, Victor Gonzales, Christopher and their mother, Corinne, who is like a daughter to us. His great grandchildren, Alexi, Nicky, Mateo, and a great granddaughter will be born in April 2019.

Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his son, Anthony “Tony”; his granddaughter, Pamela Joy Marcantonio; his brothers, Benito and Albert Sr. Marcantonio; and his nephews, Gary and Ben Jr. Marcantonio.

Al was a lifetime member of the Bay Ridge Fire Company. He was given a lifetime membership to the Sunnyside Golf Course.

Al and his wife, Marilyn raised and showed Collies and Shelties for years- they had four National Champion Collies and one International Canadian and American Champion.

Al was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf but he was happiest spending time with his family- we miss him.

Al was buried in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Veterans Cemetery in Stillwater on September 24, 2018.

I would like to thank some special friends who have always been there for us, Jerry and Nancy Beckwith, my sister, Mary Jane Celeste, CJ Fuller, Dorothy and Dick Kubricky, Evelyn Philo, Geraldine Marcantonio, Marie Bidwell and Dave Irons, who drove Al to the golf course and watched over him, himself. Thank you to all the other people who have helped.

Irene J. Dixon

KINGSBURY – Irene J. Dixon, 96, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14th, 2018, at home, with her family at her side.

She was born September 26, 1922, in Glens Falls, the daughter of Charles H. and Josephine (Newton) Dixon of Kingsbury. Irene was a life-long member of the historic Kingsbury Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities throughout her life.

For several years she worked at the Montgomery Ward store on Glen Street. Later she moved on to Triangle Shoes, where she was assistant manager.

Irene kept journals all her life, detailing her activities, thoughts, and the weather. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking, bird-watching, and word search puzzles. From 7 to 8 p.m., you could find her watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Dancing with the Stars was also a great favorite.

Her three nieces fondly remember the fun they had when, as children, they would “raid” her room to play dress up — she had the best jewelry, gloves, hats, and pocketbooks!

Irene was pre-deceased by her parents and her oldest sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Charles) Fitzgerald.

She is survived by her sister, Frances (Mrs. Lem) Pringle of Kingsbury, her nephew Larry Pringle and his wife Danusia of Mass., her nieces Cynthia (Pringle) Rawls and her husband Bennie of Hudson Falls, JoAnn (Fitzgerald) Cummings of South Glens Falls, Sheila (Fitzgerald) Red of Denver, CO, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and her great-great niece, Gael Red-Swanson of Colorado.

Calling hours for family and friends are from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17th‘ at the Carleton Funeral Home in Hudson Falls.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Moss Street Cemetery.

We are so grateful to the Karen Millington Agency for their devoted and loving care of our Sister and Aunt.

James J. Butler

FORT ANN – James “Jim” Joseph Butler, 72, of Taylor Woods Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on October 1, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late James W. and Frances (Napoli) Butler.

Following high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  He was so proud to have served his country.

On October 18, 1997, he married the love of his life, Carol Coats.  They have been married for over 20 wonderful years.

For 32 ½ years, Jim was a correctional officer at Great Meadows, retiring on August 29, 2002.

After his retirement, his wife, Carol, surprised him with a home in Fort Pierce, Florida.  They lived in sunny Florida for five years before moving back to this area to be near family.  Jim and Carol set up house on Taylor Woods Road in a home that he built with his bare hands.

He was a man of many talents who loved to take care of the yard.  Jim also enjoyed riding on his motorcycle and riding around on his fourwheeler.

In his younger years, he was a member of the Shriners and more recently, Jim loved riding his motorcycle with the Patriot Riders.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol Butler of Fort Ann; his children Matt Butler and Kim Butler; his brother, David Butler and his wife, Lee of Florida; his nephews, David “Chip” Butler of Queensbury; his two nieces, Trinica Rigg and her husband, Chris of New Jersey and Tonya Eckart and her husband, Art of Dunkirk, MD; his special uncle, Ronald Jarvis and his wife, Ann of Kingsbury; his aunts, Irene Jarvis of Kingsbury and  Janice Jarvis of West Fort Ann; his father in law, Kenneth K. Coats and his wife, Daisy of Granville; brother in law, Kenneth E. Coats and his wife, Rebecca of West Fort Ann; his niece Heather J.   and Kristopher March and their daughter, Jim’s great niece, Isabella March of Queensbury; a special neighbor, Bill Camp  (who was like a son to him) and his wife, Stacey of West Fort Ann and their children, Tess and William; and his very special pet, Maxine.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 16, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Hudson Falls American Legion Post # 574, 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

Patriot Guard Riders of New York will process with the family to the Graveside Services, which will be conducted at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 17, at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, with Rev. Mark Bailey, officiating.

James family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Julie Ann Spellacy

HUDSON FALLS- Julie Ann Spellacy went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on November 17, 1958, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Janice (Eldridge) Spellacy.

Julie graduated from Hudson Falls High School.

Due to illness, she retired from CR Bard in Queensbury.

Julie was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. She loved cooking, watching cooking shows, baking and making pies. She was known for her Christmas dinners and her famous braciola.

Julie was a very spiritual person who loved her family.

Survivors include her loving sisters, Michelle Mattison and her husband, Kenneth of Fort Ann, and Susie Spellacy of Hudson Falls; she was a loving aunt to Danielle Mattison and her wife, Alicia; Rebecca Guy and her husband, Jeffrey Guy; Michael Spellacy and his companion, Jeannie; and a loving great aunt t0 Joselyn Guy and Mika Mae.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of Julie’s life will take place on Sunday, October 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fort Ann Rescue Squad, Route 149, Fort Ann.

The family suggests that donations in Julie’s name be made to the DCI Renal Dialysis Center, 3 Broad Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Rita M. Keech

HUDSON FALLS- Rita M. (Covey) Keech, 75, of Hudson Falls, passed away at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward, on Saturday night, September 15, 2018.

Born on November 27, 1942, at the Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Irene (Weller) Covey.

Rita was a member of the Kingsbury Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kingsbury.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and playing games. Rita also enjoyed taking walks and birdwatching.

Survivors include her husband, Richard A. Keech; her sister, Lois (Covey) Lindsey; her children, Michelle (Keech) Howes and her husband, Brad, Sheryl (Keech) Collier and her husband, Bret, Timothy Keech, Brian Keech; her grandchildren, Nathan, Olivia, Anna, Martin, Sage; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will celebrate Rita’s life on Saturday, November 3, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingsbury Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3991 Route 4 in Hudson Falls.

The family suggests that donations in Rita’s name be made to ADRA- Adventist Disaster Relief Agency, 12501 Old Columbia Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.

Wilmer “Bill” C. McKinney

FORT EDWARD – Wilmer “Bill” C. McKinney, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2018, from complications of a recent illness.

He was born on February 14, 1933, in Glens Falls to the late Gerald and Lorena McKinney.

Bill served 12 years in the United States Navy as a Radio Operator.  He continued to be a ham radio operator long after his time in the service was complete.

He had a long career in law enforcement, beginning with his job at San Quentin Prison and then as a patrol officer for the City of El Ceritto, California.  After retirement, he became an active member of the Shingletown, California Fire Department, before moving to Fort Edward.   After his move to New York, he became a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574.   Bill was also active in the town Republican party and attended many town meetings.

He was predeceased by his parents Lorena and Gerald McKinney; his wife, Shirley and one son, Kenny McKinney, and his two siblings, Barbara Jean Tabernilla and James McKinney.

He is survived by his children, Debra Radcliff, Billy McKinney, Tommy McKinney and Joe McKinney; his siblings, Richard “Dick” McKinney, Beatrice Moss, Garold “Skip” McKinney, Ruth Dobler, Dorothy Ray, and Margaret “Peg” Bromwell; his 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Graveside services will be conducted, with full military honors, on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, in the town of Stillwater.

Doreen A. Ryan

HUDSON FALLS – Doreen A. Ryan, 58, of Sunset Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on November 18, 1959, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Marilyn (Hynes) Ryan.

Doreen was a 1977 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  For 16 years, she was the manager of ProTrans in Fort Edward, a job that she loved and made many wonderful friends.

She spent many hours tending to her gardens.  Doreen loved spending time at any beach and boating every week at different spots.  She also enjoyed sitting by the fire with her soulmate, Lee Murphy.  Family was the center of her life, and a close second was shopping for shoes and clothes.

Doreen will be remembered for her great sense of humor, sharp wit and for having a heart of gold.  She would do anything for anybody.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Thom Ryan and her nephew, Shane.

She is survived by her soulmate, Lee Murphy of Hudson Falls; her siblings, Bonnie Scarselletta and her husband, Steve of Hudson Falls, Dan Ryan and his wife, Valerie of South Glens Falls, Karen Diel and her husband, Bryon of South Glens Falls and Sean Ryan and his wife, Jenni of Hudson Falls; her sister in law, Diane of Clifton Park; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Friends may call on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Gary L. McLaughlin

LAKE GEORGE – Gary L. McLaughlin, 80, of Helen Street in Lake George, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.

Born on November 28, 1937 in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Milton T. and Margaret (Bennett) McLaughlin.

Gary was a 1956 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  Soon after graduation, on November 13, 1956, he married the love of his life, Joyce Evans at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls, officiated by Father Dunbar.

Gary was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having been honorably discharged on February 27, 1963.  He also enjoyed going to the Lake George American Legion Post # 374 to spend time with his fellow veterans.

In 1957, he began his career as an New York State Encon officer, retiring in 1988.

He was a jack of all trades who could do anything. Gary was an excellent car restorer, carpenter and craftsman.  He restored antique cars, namely VW Beetles, and then sold them.   Once Gary and Walter Grishkot made a 1937 Jaguar.

When he found time to take a vacation, Gary went on hunting trips to Canada with his wife, Joyce and friends, Art and Pat.  Later in life, he took trips to Florida and to Acapulco, Mexico.    Above all he loved entertaining his family and friends, playing guitar, while his wife, Joyce accompanying him on vocals.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Scott and Milton McLaughlin and his sisters, Nancy Clifton and Jackie Carpenter.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce McLaughlin of Lake George; his children, Cathy (Michael) Hayes, Gary (Kathy) McLaughlin, Robin (Willie) Ortiz, Barbara (William) Forbes, Scott McLaughlin and his fiancé, Robin Andre and Amy (Benjamin) Dickerson; 23 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; his sisters, Sherryn (Michael) Espeseth, Barbara (Garry) Hamlin and Joy (Chet) Suida; his sister in law, Brigid McLaughlin; his brothers, Daniel (Kathy) Carpenter and Tony King; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank his special caregivers, Warren County Health Services, Alzheimer Respite, Dr. Christopher Hoy, Audrey Charron, Kristine Hart, Joyce Moulton and Lynelle Hauser for the wonderful care and compassion given to Gary.

Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, following the calling hours at the funeral home.

Steven M. Parsons

HUDSON FALLS – Steven M. Parsons, after a long illness, passed away early in the morning of September 23rd, in Glens Falls Hospital.  He resided in Hudson Falls and was born in Rochester, N.Y. in 1939.

From the age of five, he studied the violin.  Steve graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 1961 and taught music in the Hudson Falls Central School District from 1961until his retirement in 1994.

He was a loyal and generous man with a great sense of humor.  Outgoing and affable, he easily made friends, and they will miss him dearly.

He is predeceased by his parents, George and Helen (Harrington) Parsons.

Steve is survived by his brother, Thomas L. Parsons.

Friends may call on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 10 to 12 PM at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Memorial Services will follow the calling hours at 12 Noon at the funeral home on Saturday, with the Rev. Michael Plank, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, officiating.

A Reception will follow the service at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, 5 River Street in Hudson Falls.

In his last hours Steve expressed his deep gratitude to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad and the wonderful staff and doctors of Glens Falls Hospital.

Laurie Jean Howk (Aiken)

HADLOCK POND AND ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE- Laurie Jean Howk (Aiken), 60, ascended to the House of the Lord on the 19th day of September 2018 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.

She was born in Glens Falls on April 30, 1958 to Edwin and Betty Aiken of Hudson Falls, who we know welcomed her with loving arms when she left this earth and joined them in heaven.

Laurie graduated from Hudson Falls High School, later attending Adirondack Community College where she met her husband, Paul Howk from Queensbury, and they embarked on an almost 41-year journey that literally spanned the world.

Laurie is survived by her husband Paul, their three beautiful daughters and their spouses: Jennifer Hendrex (Cordell) of North Las Vegas, NV; Justina Westhead (David) of North Las Vegas, NV; and Marissa Beauchamp (Joseph) of New Boston, MI, five grandchildren Macy and Taven Hendrex and Emelyn, Eloise, and Evan Westhead, her four siblings: Susan Pack (Greg) of Cape Coral, Florida; John Aiken (Jeriann) of West Ft Ann, Linda Murray (Ervin) of Queensbury; and Thomas Aiken (Connie) of Perkins, SC, and a beloved family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Laurie was a devoted United States Air Force wife, mother, and a true patriot.  She loved to travel and traveled the world as part of the Air Force with her husband and family for a total of 36 years.  She courageously battled a rare respiratory illness, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, throughout her life but took pride in never showing her disability.  She truly loved spending time with her three daughters and her grandchildren at their family home on Hadlock Pond in Ft Ann, NY.  Laurie’s respiratory issues took their toll and on October 1st 2005 she received a miracle in the form of a single lung transplant thanks to the generosity of a young lady named Amanda Sheffer and the skill of the Inova Fairfax Lung Transplant Team.  Amanda and her selfless family became extended members of Laurie’s family throughout these last 13 years.  She exhibited great faith, strength, and courage throughout her many health issues.  She kept her positive attitude and always said “if you look good, you feel good”.  Laurie inspired all of those around her to never give up, believe in the power of prayer, and always wear lipstick!  She will be missed beyond belief by those who knew her and loved her.

Friends may call on Wednesday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Jon Bly officiating.

Burial will be at the Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, after the services.

All are welcome to attend a gathering at the Queensbury Central Firehouse on Lafayette Street in Queensbury, at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

HUDSON FALLS – John C. Weber, of Hudson Falls and Proctor, VT, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

John was born on September 17, 1958, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late John and Helen Weber.

John grew up in Hudson Falls and attended Hudson Falls Schools.  He worked for many years Native Textiles before they closed.  He was currently working at Angiodynamics in Queensbury.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and building things out of wood.  He enjoyed making toy boxes for his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary.

He is survived by his children, Kira Weber (Phillip Ball) of Stillwater, Staff Sergeant Kristopher Weber of Jacksonville, NC and Kyle Weber of Feeding Hills, MA his grandchildren, Wyatt Ball of Stillwater, Emily Weber of Fayetteville, NC, Briana Weber-Lovelace of St. Cloud, FL and Jaelah Ball of Stillwater; his fiancé, Karen Davis and their dog, Nina of Proctor, Vermont; his sisters, Pat DeLong (Raymond, Bev Cheeney (Robert) and Lynn Bailey (David); his former wife and mother of his children, Joanne Weber of Stillwater; and many nieces, nephews cousins, aunts and uncles.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers to make a donation in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
