Donald F. Flint

dflintHUDSON FALLS – Donald F. Flint passed away Sunday December 22, 2013 after a long illness. 

He was the son of the late Grover C. and Ida G. (MacDonough) Flint. 

Donald was born in Mineville NY on May 2, 1927. 

Donald had quite the diversified career and experience. An alumnus of Mineville High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, during WW II serving on the USS Myles C. Fox DD-829 in the Pacific Theatre, in Tokyo Bay, providing cover for occupation landing on Japan/atomic bombing. 

Returning to Mineville NY, he became a charter member #12 of the VFW Post 5802, remaining as a lifetime member in 1996. 

He was a carpenter apprentice through the Glens Falls local. Donald was employed at Republic Steel Corp. until it’s closing in the 50’s as a tar loader. In 1950, he relocated to Schenectady NY where he was employed through General Electric Company as a welding apprentice. He was also an assistant foreman and volunteer at the Scotia Fire Company in Scotia NY. 

In 1960, upon purchasing the Phelps house in Crown Point NY he became assistant chief of the A.E. Phelps Engine Company, with various employment opportunities as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineer Local 106 Albany NY. Also, Don joined the F&AM

Rescue Lodge 772, Crown Point NY and member of the Masonic Brotherhood for 50+ years. 

In 1963, Don moved to Hudson Falls NY, having joined the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 773 of Glens Falls NY, remaining a member for 50+ years. 

Don was very active in the Hudson Falls Little League as a coach. 

While residing in Hudson Falls, he was nicknamed the “Mayor of Pearl Street”. 

In 1998, Don and Florence retired to Ormond Beach FL, enjoying the beach, gardening, and many visitor attractions until an opportunity arose to live next to their daughter Donna in Katy Tx. in 2006. Grandpa loved spending time with his grandsons and attending their Little League games. 

Donald is predeceased by his sister, Pauline F. Trybendis, his niece Shirley T. Sears, his daughter, Cynthia A. Flint, and his son, William S. Flint. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence (Speyer) Flint, his daughter and namesakeDonna F. Flint Wheeler and her husband, Paul, and Don’s 4 grandson’s Thomas, Phillip,Benjamin, and Jacob, and his nephew, Michael J. Trybendis of Ticonderoga. 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. 

A Masonic service will be conducted at 3:45 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home, conducted by Rescue Lodge 772, F &AM of Mineville. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Shuler, officiating. 

Burial, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga. 

Donations may be made to the local SPCA animal shelter, P.O. Box 171, Hudson Falls, NY 12839, where in 1984 Don and Florence adopted their beloved dog, Snoopy.

Lester Arthur Brown, Jr.

Brown 2HARTFORD – Lester Arthur Brown, Jr., 86, formally a resident of Hartford, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2013 at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward. 

Born on February 25, 1927, in Dunham’s Basin, he was the son of the late Lester and Sarah Mason Brown.

Lester married Joyce Wallace on November 23, 1953, in the First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls. They spent 20 years together until her death in July of 1974.  They had eight wonderful children.

He later met and married Joyce (Morehouse) Day in the West Hebron Presbyterian Church, on July 5, 1975.

Les graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1944.  He served in the War of Occupation in Italy from 1945-46.  For 25 years, Les worked as a Corrections Officer at the Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, retiring in 1980.  He developed many dear friends while working there.

Along with raising his large family, Les took advantage of life’s opportunities, and had many hobbies.  He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, making maple syrup, camping at Cedar River Flow, canoeing, and hiking.  Boris River was one of his favorite places.  He also took his children to the Wallace Camp in Minerva.  During the fall, Les spent many hours hunting in Minerva with the Wallace family men.  

Throughout the years, and after his retirement, Les and Joyce camped, traveled together cross country, and toured all the states with the exception of Hawaii.

Les and his father built three homes.  Later, Les built his own home in Hartford and also assisted his children with building their own homes.  He was an avid reader of Western novels, enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, and solved the daily puzzles in the paper.  He also crafted many wooden treasures for his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife of 20 years, his sisters, Eunice, Jean and Betsy and his daughter, Mary’s companion, Jack Bracken. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joyce Morehouse Day Brown, and his sisters Dorothy Purdy and Lois Floyd; his eight beloved children; Christine and Brian Jones, Gregory and Suzanne Brown, Russell and Roberta Brown, Terry and Carol Brown, John and Rubenia Brown, Amy and Paul Yole, Mary Brown, and Martha and Patrick Smith.  Additionally, he leaves behind four step-children;  Jessica Day, Jane and Daniel Dorrer, Marvin and Albert Day, and Kristine and Leroy Magee; 29 grandchildren:  Matthew (Adriane) Jones, Steven (Amanda) Jones, Nathan (Paige) Jones, Scott Brown, Jacob (Amber) Brown, Sarah Brown, Joel (Danielle) Brown, Jared (Kimberly) Brown, Alexander (Samantha) Brown, Andre and Dillon Brown, Nicholas and Justin Affinito, Benjamin and Andrea Smith, Brian (Rachel) O’Hara,  Jessica (Dan) Shiels, Michael (Allyssa) Yole,  Ashley (Bo) Yole, Alyssa (Jesse) Arlen, Ashley (Steven) Townsend, Marta Townsend, Megan (Cory) Dorrer, Sarah Dorrer, Corey Day, Marcus Day, Geraldine Day,  Maurice Magee and Jenine Magee;  nine great-grandchildren; Mason and Lillian Jones, Ella Jones, Jayce Jones, Kennedy Shiels, Olivia Brown, Abby Brown, Alivia Brummagyn, and Camryn Arlen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Beverly Morehouse, Donald and Marcia Corriveau, Marina Wallace and Deborah Wallace; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. 

Memorial Services will be held at the Hartford United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 28th at 11:00.  Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Les’s Life at the Hartford Fire Company on State Route 40 in Hartford.

Clifford “Bud” H. Duval

DuvalHUDSON FALLS – Clifford “Bud” H. Duval, 91, a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at The Stanton Nursing and Rehab. Center in Queensbury.

Born on October 21, 1922 in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Cleophaus and Nellie (Wallace) Duval.

On August 29, 1946, he married Dorothy Beatrice LaPoint, in St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  They Spent 47 wonderful years together, until her death in 1994.  He later met and married, Charlotte A. Simon in Greenwich on his 78th birthday, October 21, 2000.

Cliff attended Hudson Falls High School and for over 30 years worked for Hercules, Inc., in Queensbury, retiring as a Chemical Color Operator.  Cliff played in the Drum and Bugle Corps.

Cliff loved woodworking, sports and traveling.  His most cherished trip was the time he brought his children and grandchildren to Disney World.

Besides his wives, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Gregory and Melina Bain, brothers, Armand Duval, Raymond Duval, Sr., George Duval, and Andre Duval.

Surviving family members include, his son,  Gary (JoAnn) Duval of Glens Falls; his daughters, Colleen Vannier (Robert) and Cynthia Schoelermann (James) Both of Queensbury; one sister, Emilee Blondin of Hudson Falls; one brother, Pierre (Pauline) Duval of Hartford; his sister-in-law, Carol Duval of Hudson Falls; seven grandchildren, Christopher  (Lorraine) Duval of Queensbury, Joshua (Stephanie) Duval of Richmond, VA, Danielle Duval of Glens Falls, Robert Vannier of Schenectady, Jamie Hack of Glens Falls, Shannon (Jeremy) Carner of Glens Falls and Shawn Schoelermann of Glens Falls.  He is also survived by his six great grandchildren, Kayla Hack,  Kamden and Ella Carner of Glens Falls, Emily Duval of Hudson Falls and Keegan and Caiden Vannier of Schenectady; additionally, Cliff’s special and dear friend of the past year, Peggy Hastings.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m.  on Friday evening, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Memorial services will be conducted at 7p.m. on Friday, following the calling hour, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Edward H. Kennedy

HUDSON FALLS – Edward H. Kennedy, 66, passed away, Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital with his son-in-law by his side.

Born on August 17, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Cornelius Edward and Starr (Hamelin) Kennedy.  He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1965 and went to work at Montgomery Ward.  From there he got a job as a printer at The Glens Falls Times and worked there until it folded in 1971.  On April 16, 1971, Ed joined a handful of employees at TV Data, which was founded by James West.  The company evolved and was sold, and Ed evolved with it, from working as a printer with hot metal on a linotype machine to being a manager in charge of hardware for Tribune Media Services, Inc.  Ed made many good friends over the years at his places of work.

On June 1, 1968, he married Linda J. Mastrangelo, at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.  They celebrated their 45th anniversary this year.

Ed enjoyed playing and watching sports.  He played football in high school and then with the Greenjackets, after graduation.  For many years, he played basketball and volleyball at the “Y” and recreational softball in the spring.  Ed loved watching all of his daughter’s volleyball, basketball and softball games and track meets.  His favorite professional teams were the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the Washington Redskins.

Ed was a great hunting and fishing enthusiast.  For a time he went rabbit hunting with his basset hound, Beau, and for many years stalked deer with his rifle or bow.  One of his bucks is in the New York State Record Book.

Ed liked to travel to Maine and Assateague Island, MD, where he camped with his wife and daughter for many years.  There were lots of trips to Dallas, TX to stay with his sister, Helen, and her family and to the west coast to visit his sister, Mary Starr, and her husband Dick, in Temecula, CA.  However, Ed’s favorite destination was wherever his daughter was living, whether in San Francisco, Portland, OR or Sacramento.

Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his infant son, Edward Patrick, his sister, Helen (John) Gehan and his brothers–in-law, Stanley Anderson and David Mastrangelo.

Ed is survived by his wife, Linda J. Kennedy; his daughter, Colleen M. Kennedy, and her husband, John Mounier; his sister, Mary Starr (J. Richard) Settelmayer; his brothers–in-law, Peter (Katharina) Mastrangelo and Edward Mastrangelo; his sister-in-law, Martha (Victor) Scripture; many cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends.

Special thanks go out to Dr. Amy Hogan-Moulton and Dr. Michael Layden, who took care of Ed and cared about him for years.  Thank you also to the caring nurses and staff at the Renal Dialysis Center on Broad Street and at Glens Falls Hospital, Floors 3 West, ICU, and Tower 2.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, December, 23, 2013, at the Church of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s in Hudson Falls.

Helen Patrecia “Pat” Havens

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Helen Patrecia “Pat” Havens, 78, of Harrison Avenue, went home to the Lord with her family by her side, at her home, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

Born on August 22, 1935 in Fenimore, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Helen (Lapointe) Dickinson, Sr.

 In 1953, Pat graduated from Hudson Falls High School.

On August 31, 1958, she married Asher Havens at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.   He passed away in 1995.

For ten years, Pat was a cashier at the former Joy Store in South Glens Falls.   After the store’s closing, she was employed at NAMIC for almost five years and then until 2002, Pat was a cashier at the Hannaford Supermarket in Queensbury.

She attended the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post #574.

Pat loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She enjoyed swimming in her pool and traveling with her best friend, Marion Doyle.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two infant children, Angel Lynn, died in 1968 and Adam Spencer, who died in 1967, her brothers, Myron Dickinson, John James, Jr., Thomas Dickinson; her sisters, Betty Jane Meade, Lorraine Jenkins; and her sister in law, Angela Dickinson

Survivors include her seven children, Asher S. Havens, II and his wife, Diana of Claremore, OK, Patrecia-Anne T. Jackson and her husband, Bill of Framingham, MA, Andrew S. Havens and his wife, Tracy of South Glens Falls, Anthony S. Havens and his wife, Suzanne of South Glens Falls, Aaron S. Havens and his wife, Stephanie of Tucson, AZ, Adam S. Havens and his wife, Annette of Syracuse and Alicemarie L. Johnston and her husband, Curt of South Glens Falls; her 14 grandchildren, Asher S. Havens, III,  Jolene M. Havens, Casey L. Jackson, Zachary C. Havens, Andrew S. Havens, II, Anthony P. Jackson, Sabrina L. Havens, Nicholas J. Havens, Brianna P. Jackson, Alec S. Havens, Tyler A. Havens, Alison S. Havens, Ian T. Johnson and Chadwick M. Havens; her great grandchildren, Alourah S. Havens, Asher S. Havens, IV, Hannah M. Burch and Andrew S. Havens, Mackenzie Burch, Jack Wolf, Emma I. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Parkway in South Glens Falls.

Burial will be at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Camden Scott Depew

ARGYLE – Camden Scott Depew, son of Matthew agnd Jenna (Smith) Depew, passed away at birth on Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

In addition to his parents, Camden is survived by his sister, Alaina Depew of Argyle; his maternal grandparents, Michael and Maureen Smith of Greenwich; his paternal grandparents, Scott and Margo Depew of Argyle; his maternal great-grandfather John Smith of Whitehall, his maternal grandmother  Mona Martucci of Whitehall;  his paternal great-grandfather Frank Depew of Argyle; his aunt and uncle Carrie Smith and Michael Smith, both of Greenwich his aunt and uncle Bree and Richard Horton of Argyle; his aunt and uncle Jessica and Peter Cormie of Argyle; and several other aunts and uncles and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m.  on Saturday at the Argyle Presbyterian Church in Argyle with the Rev. Stephen McLean, pastor officiating.

A reception will immediately follow the funeral at the church hall.

Mary E. Snyder

FORT EDWARD – Mary E. Snyder, 91, passed away at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center, on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Born on October 20, 1922, in the town of Moreau, she was the daughter of the late James and Phoebe (Mabb) Balfour.

Mary was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School.  She then worked for 41 years at General Electric Company in Hudson Falls.  Mary was also a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls.

In addition to her husband, George Snyder and her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, William Balfour, Ralph Balfour, Harold Balfour; her half brothers, John Patch, Edward Patch and James Patch and her sisters, Helen Abare and Margaret Abare.

Survivors include her sister in law, Betty Balfour of South Glens Falls; her special niece, Nancy Snyder of Fort Edward; her special nieces and nephews in law, Donna and Leslie Hickok of Arizona and Sandra and James Clark, Sr. of South Glens Falls; her special nephew, Ralph Balfour of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and several great nephews and great nieces and great great nieces and nephews.

There will be a family viewing from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. following the calling hour at St. Michael the Archangel Church on Route 9 in South Glens Falls, with the Reverend Tony Childs, pastor officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

Eunice Tarantino

Tarantino 1Tarantino 2HUDSON FALLS – Eunice Tarantino’s spirit left this world on Monday December 9, 2013 following a respite stay at The Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward, NY.

Born on July 6, 1925 in Hudson Falls, Eunice was the daughter of Ira and Florence (Chard) Willette.

On July 10, 1943 she was married to Lt Roger A Ryder.  He was killed in action during World War II, January 9, 1945.  On January 8, 1955, she was married to Leonard J. Tarantino, Sr. in St Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  He died on December 12, 1995.

Eunice was a 1942 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  She was employed as an executive secretary to the plant manager of Scutan Division of Union Bag & Paper Corp., until she resigned after 10 years of service to stay at home with her family.  Later she became an administrative secretary at Fort Hudson Nursing Home Inc. where she retired after 20 years of service in 1991. 

Eunice’s proudest achievement, along with her husband, was having their seven children attain the highest education of their choice. 

Loyalty, diligence, intelligence and integrity were traits Eunice exhibited throughout her life.  She could converse on any topic and had a special way of connecting with anyone she spoke with because she wanted to listen to the other person’s point of view.  She found humor in life even when the joke was on her. Eunice loved her home, her front porch, and her flower garden.  She enjoyed reading, listening to music, travelling, visiting the sea shore, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.  She could make a mean spaghetti sauce that would feed a crowd and every so often on the holidays or weddings she gleefully downed a Manhattan or a Rusty Nail.  She enjoyed the competition of board and card games at family get-togethers, playing Bridge with her girlfriends, gambling at the racetrack with her sons and their friends. She was a voyeur of national politics and an active participant on the local political scene. 

Eunice led a simple good and full life, surrounded by family and friends.  Family was her priority.  In her later years she was able to visit some of the distant places she had read about, places like Europe, California, and Hawaii.  Not so long ago, she organized a family trip in Washington D. C. to witness the opening of the World War II memorial, for which she had generously contributed.  She hated war, but she wanted to honor her children’s fathers, her husbands, who had fought in that war so long ago.  Sharing the D.C. trip with her children and grandchildren was a wonderful and memorable experience for the whole family.  We can still see her smiling. 

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Eunice was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Maziejka (1991), grandson Michael Ahrens (2010), and sister Marjorie Cardinal. 

Eunice is survived by her children, Dayle (Roger) Ahrens of Fort Edward, Gayle (David) DeRienzis of Sea Cliff, Ellen (Paul Fronhofer) Ketchum of Salem, Leonard (Carolyn) Tarantino Jr. of Ho-Ho-Kus NJ, Thomas (Andrea) Tarantino of Wilmington NC, Eunice (Francis) Belleville of Clifton Park; her grandchildren Roger (Janet) Ahrens, Elizabeth (Jason) Martin, Jennifer Ahrens; Daniel and Joshua DeRienzis; Benjamin (Katherine) Ketchum; Jonathan (Deana Lewsey) Ketchum; Rachael, Cameron and Noah Maziejka, Bryce and Brittany Tarantino; Nicholas, Peter and Diane Tarantino; Samuel and Hannah Belleville; and great grandchildren, Zachary, Elizabeth and Joshua Ahrens; Jane and Allison Martin; and Simon, Ethan and Olivia DeRienzis; former son-in-laws Stanley Maziejka, Frank Ketchum; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Calling hours for Eunice will be held at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls, NY from 4 – 7 pm on Tuesday December 17. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday December 18, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls. 

The Rite of committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. 

On our mother’s behalf we would like to thank the staff of the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for their devotion to our mother’s wellbeing in these last few months of her life.

Grace A. Kenneally

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Grace A. Kenneally, 70, of Astoria Ave, South Glens Falls, passed away surrounded by her family and friends, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born March 4, 1943, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the Late Raymond and Helen (Bombard) Fenton.

Grace attended Hudson Falls High School.

On August 28, 1960, she married Richard Kenneally at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hudson Falls.

She attended St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, enjoyed bowling, travel, playing the slots and especially time spent with her family.

Besides her parents, Grace is predeceased by her brother, Richard Fenton.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Richard Kenneally of South Glens Falls; her children, Colleen Ross of South Glens Falls, Dan Kenneally of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren, Mark Ross, Jr. of Hudson Falls and Jake and Chad Kenneally of Virginia Beach, Val; her sister, Daunne Saunders of Hudson Falls;  and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call Sunday, December 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc, 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16, 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Jeanne A. Durling

DurlingQUEENSBURY – Jeanne A. Durling, 87, formerly of Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida, passed away saying her rosary, on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Stanton Health Care Facility.

Born on April 18, 1926, in Boston, Mass, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Mabel (O’Connor) Bracken.

After high school, Jeanne graduated from Boston University.  She worked as a physical education teacher at St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls until she met her husband, Edward Durling.

Jeanne and Edward were married on January 21, 1950 in Boston, Mass.

Together with her husband, she operated Durling Studio in Hudson Falls, for 30 years.  Jeanne was a member of the Glens Fall s Hospital Guild.  Some of her favorite times in life were sitting by the pool in Florida talking to her friends.  Most important to her was being with her family.  She also thoroughly enjoyed wheeling and dealing at Swap Shop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Francis, Sonny and Paul Bracken and also her sisters in law, Peggy Bracken, Frances Renaud, and Lorretta Bracken.

She is survived by her four children,  Peter Durling and his wife, Daria of Vermont, Sue Anne Mayette and her husband, David of Vermont, Joanne Watkins and her husband, Peter of Queensbury, Gerry Durling of Florida; her grandchildren, Molly, Michael, Matthew, Jana and her husband, Shaun, Valerie and her husband, Adam, Cara and her fiancé, Liam, Tom; her brand new great granddaughter, Isla; several nieces, nephews,  cousins; her brother in law, Richard Durling and his wife, Margaret of Florida; and her sister in law, Mary Anne Whiting and her husband, Robert of Florida.

Friends may call on Friday, December 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Jeanne will be laid to rest with her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward.

Irving F. Jenkins

ARGYLE – Irving F. Jenkins, 90, formerly of McEachron Hill Rd., passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital

Born July 18, 1923 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Sam and Edna (Carpenter) Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins attended Glens Falls public schools.

During World War II, Irving saw action in N. Africa, Italy and France while serving with the United States Army.

He married Rita Allen, in February of 1951, in Cannan, Conn. Following their marriage they lived in Fort Edward and Salem. Mrs. Jenkins died November 23, 1985.

For several years, he was employed at Ciba-Geigy formerly in Queensbury. Mr. Jenkins had been a member of the Argyle Senior Citizens and enjoyed traveling and flower gardening. In his younger years, Mr. Jenkins served with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was on the crew that built Rogers Rock Camp Grounds

Another member of his family who died before him was a brother, Morgan Jenkins, his step-son, Gary LaRoe and a grandson, Kevin Jenkins.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Jenkins and his wife, Roxanne, of Argyle, Roger Jenkins and his wife, Mary, of Hudson Falls and Len Jenkins and his wife Sharron, of Hebron; his sister, Jessie George of Hudson Falls; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Saturday (Today) from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Flower, pastor of the South Granville Congregational Church, officiating.

Burial will be on Monday at 10 a.m.in Union Cemetery in the Town of Ft. Edward. Full military honors will be provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574 Color Guard.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Inc., PO Box 226, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

GALWAY – Shirley I. Kaiser, 90 , passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Trevett, surrounded by her family. 

She was born Shirley Warner in Amsterdam, New York on April 6, 1923.  She graduated from Amsterdam High School with honors and attended the Mildred Ellie Business School.

Shirley began working in the St. Mary’s Hospital laboratory as a phlebotomist, and also worked in the medical records departments of the Nathan Littaur Hospital in Gloversville and Johnstown Hospital.  At the time of her retirement she was the Patient Care Coordinator for Johnstown Hospital.

She enjoyed 61 years of marriage to the love of her life, Spencer Kaiser, who predeceased her in 2005.  They spent many happy years together, hiking, fishing, camping, dancing, and showing their children how to live and love.

Shirley was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church in Gloversville.  She had many hobbies and enjoyed knitting items for her family.  She was an accomplished musician who played the piano and had a lovely singing voice.  She taught piano to some of her children and grandchildren.  She was known for her computer and technology skills, keeping in touch with many people through Facebook.

Besides her husband, Spencer Kaiser, Shirley was predeceased by a grandson, James Trevett, in 1986. 

She is survived by her three daughters; Bonnie (David) Trevett of Hudson Falls, Judy (Rick) Vaughan of Ithaca, and Marcie (Tom) Page of Amsterdam; 15 grandchildren, Kristine (Chris) Trevett-Jones, Renee (Terence) Murphy, Marie (Mike) Mercure, Rebekah (Chad) LaBombarde, Kyle (Kelsi) Trevett, Jacob (Tatianna) Eletto, Colin (Anthia) Eletto, Audra Eletto, Kara Eletto, Nate (Ashley) Page, Carly Page, Emily Page, Brian Vaughan, and Kevin Vaughan; as well as 12 great grandchildren.

She will be missed for her determined spirit and her zest for life.

Funeral services will follow calling hours at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Burial will be Hagaman Mills Cemetery in Hagaman, New York.
