FENIMORE – Hilda (Anderson) Simonetta, 101, of Grant Road, a lifelong Fenimore resident, passed away Monday March 17, 2014 at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 11, 1913 in Fenimore, she was the daughter of the late Olof and Johanna (Polson) Anderson.
On December 24, 1935, she married Perley A. Simonetta, at Pastor J. Servis LaRue’s home. Perley passed away on March 21, 1964, after 29 years of marriage.
Early in her life, Hilda worked at Bronne Shirt Factory in Hudson Falls. For twenty years, she was employed at the South Glens Falls School Cafeteria, as a cook.
Hilda was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Weekday School teacher, a member of the Board of Deacons and a member of the Women’s Association, where she was Woman of the Year in 1983.
She had a heart full of love and would extend her hand to anyone in need. Hilda loved her family and spent most of her life devoted to raising and enjoying her five children, as well as opening her arms to her 10 grandchildren, her 12 great grandchildren, various relatives and all of the neighborhood children. There was always an extra person at the dinner table. Hilda spent many years volunteering for the PTA, while her children were in school and was a long time member of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. She loved to travel and took many trips with the Senior Citizens.
Hilda was predeceased by two her brothers, Oscar Anderson and Arthur Anderson and two sisters, Hilma Anderson and Mabel Anderson and her great grandson, Thomas D. Fitzgerald III.
Survivors include five children, Phyllis Steen and her husband, Charles of Hopatcong, NJ, Janice Nolin and her husband, Joel of South Glens Falls, Linda Gaulin of Moreau, Elaine Simione of Saratoga Springs and David Simonetta of Fort Ann; ten grandchildren. Thomas Fitzgerald and his wife, Lisa of Buchanan, Robert Fitzgerald and his wife, Pam of South Glens Falls, Todd Simione and his wife, Mary Jane of Michigan, Jennifer Gaulin Stevens and her husband, Glen of Alaska, Marc Simione of Saratoga Springs, Michael Gaulin of Manhattan, Nanette Simione of New Paltz, Janet Nolin of Glens Falls, Danielle Simonetta Maurer and her husband, Greg of VA and David Simonetta Jr. and his wife, Charlotte of VA; twelve great grandchildren, Kylie Fitzgerald and Tauri Fitzgerald both of Buchanan, Rachel Fitzgerald and Eric Fitzgerald both of South Glens Falls, Alexander Stevens, Nicholas Stevens and Hannah Stevens of Alaska, Tristan, Hannah, and Madeline Simonetta, Mason and Benjamin Maurer, all of VA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call Friday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 9 River St., Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Michael Plank, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

Hilda’s family would like to extend their gratitude and a special thank you to all the nurses, aides, and staff on the A-wing of Fort Hudson Health Care Center, who cared for our mother as if she were their own.
