HUDSON FALLS – Carl J. Barton, 86, of Notre Dame Street, passed away unexpectedly, at his home, on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.
Born on March 12, 1931, in Stockholm, NY, he was the son of the late Loren and Mildred (Rose) Barton.
Carl was a 1948 graduate of Potsdam High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Following high school, he continued his education and playing sports at SUNY Canton, graduating in 1951.
Following college, Carl began his career at General Electric as a manufacturing engineer. After 28 years at GE, he became a self employed electrical contractor. From 1980 to 1987, Carl continued his career in electrical design at Allstates Design and Development Corp. He retired in 1994 from New York State Facilities Development Corp in electrical design and estimates.
On November 24, 1955, Carl married Joan Palmer. They were married almost 50 years, when she passed away on March 19, 2005.
Playing, watching and coaching sports were important parts of Carl’s life. He never missed a game of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Altogether, Carl enjoyed watching over 10000 games. When there wasn’t a game with a family member involved, he still would come out and support the local little league teams. Carl wasn’t just a fan, he touched many lives as a well-respected coach, past president and regional secretary for Little League.
Carl also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He was considered the best Pitch Player in New York State. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a deep intelligence and was respected by many, in all walks of his life. Carl not only enjoyed local games, but also traveling with kids to sporting events. He was a true sports fanatic from high school until his death.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joan H. Barton, his sister, Ruth (Barton) Peterson, his brother, Loren H. Barton, his nephews, Robert Barton and Carl Peterson.
He is survived by his five sons, John Barton and his wife, Michelle, Jeff Barton and his wife, Carol, David Barton, Terry Barton and his wife, Cathi and Dan Barton; his grandchildren, Amber Barton, Brandon Barton and companion, Jeff, Todd Barton, Jarrod Barton, Matt Barton and his wife, Christine, Mike Barton and his wife, Justine, Nick Barton and his wife, Lindsey, Katy Barton and Tanner Barton; his great grandchildren, Kalista, Brady, Emma, Dane, Skylar, Chloe, Piper and Somyah; his brother, John Barton; his sister, Arlene McEwen; and several wonderful friends.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Burial will be in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
In lieu of flowers, Carl’s family suggests memorial donations be sent to Hudson Falls Tiger Trackers Booster Club, P.O. Box 83, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

So sorry to hear of Carl’s passing. Lots of fond memories with Carl and his family. He and Joan were always fun to be with. Condolences to all of your family.
To John, Terry and your younger brothers. I was saddened to learn of my friend Carl’s passing. During my years in Hudson Falls Carl and Joan were very dear friends and my many instances of association with them are fond memories for me. Carl was the greatest sports FAN I ever knew and his support for sports at all levels was extraordinary. Along with supporting his own sons he was a huge supporter of the Greenjacket Football Team during my almost 40 years of association as player and GM. Our social activities were filled with many hilarious escapades and Carl could always be counted on to provide a hearty laugh or entertaining action. I hope to recall some of these events during my time in HF this Summer. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. We have lost a great man. Jim Willig, Sierra Vista, AZ

To Dave, Danny, John, Jeff, Terry and all the Barton Family…It is with great sadness that I write this. Your father has worn many hats over the years that I have known him First he was the wonderful neighbor and friend of the family, always with a smile and a helping hand. I can’t even count the number of times he walked across the street to give my dad a hand with some sort of electrical project/problem. When I moved back into my grandmothers house four years ago, he wore the hats of a neighbor, a friend and a father figure. He always seemed to be looking out for me and worry that I was doing too much or shouldn’t be working with certain tools, etc. I will sorely miss him, especially come spring seeing him outside in his flower garden and vegetable garden and our many chats as we spent time outside. My love and prayers are with you all at this time of sorrow. God Bless you all. It has been a real honor for me to have known your father all these years, from childhood to adulthood. Know that he was blessed and that you are all blessed to have had him as a father/dad/father-in-law/grandfather and great-grandfather. He has touched many lives and hearts during his life, I know he did mine .
Dear Barton Family, Just heard the news about Carl. So, so sorry for your loss. God bless. Enjoy your wonderful memories. The ties that will bind you all together. Hugs, The Ibbotson Family
