HUSDON FALLS – Betty J. Mayotte, 93, of LaClaire Street, went into the arms of the Lord on March 29, 2014 at The Pines in Glens Falls.
Born on February 24, 1921 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Philoma (Lee) Derocher.
Betty attended St. Alphonsus School and later graduated from Glens Falls High School.
Betty used to Square Dance with friends in North Creek as a young women. She first worked for the A&P and then as a laboratory technician at Finch Pruyn. It was in Pruyn’s cafeteria that a beautiful young women caught the eye of Joe Mayotte. On August 15, 1948, they were married by Rev. Arnold English at St. Alphonsus Church. Joseph passed away in 2007. Betty was a devoted wife for almost 59 years. She and Joe were always seen together. They enjoyed vacationing and visiting family and friends. Betty greatly enjoyed NY Yankee baseball. Following the birth of their son, Betty transitioned to the role of fulltime homemaker and mother. She loved volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Mother and school lunch helper. Later, as her mother aged, Betty managed her care for a number of years. She also enjoyed crafts, gardening and was active in the local Home Bureau.
As a communicant at St. Mary’s / St. Paul’s Church, she was active in several parish organizations, such as St. Anne Sodality, the Martha’s and the Rosary Altar Society.
Besides her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her two brothers, William J. Derocher and Robert “Lee” Derocher.
Survivors include her son, Gregory Mayotte and his wife, Mary of Hopewell Junction; her three grandchildren, Steven Mayotte and his wife, Cassandra of Hoboken, NJ, Anne Covich and her husband, Matthew of Poughkeepsie and Mark Mayotte of Queens; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, following the calling hour at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will be later in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
Betty’s family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Northeastern NY Chapter, 1717 Central Ave., Suite 105, Albany, NY 12205.
I am so sorry about the loss of Betty. I have many fond memories of her when we worked together in the Marthas. She always had a smile and a willingness to reach out to others. She is with her Lord now. Rest in Peace Betty
