FORT EDWARD – Ann Wickes Fowler, 78, lost her battle with cancer on January 22, 2014.
She was the daughter of Herbert and Marie Swanson, born September 30, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. Her family moved to Lindenhurst, NY where she graduated high school as the salutatorian. She then attended SUNY Oneonta where she obtained her teaching degree and later received her masters from SUNY Plattsburgh.
She married Douglas Robert Wickes and after his death, spent 14 years raising her son before marrying Frank R. Fowler to whom she was married for 33 years before his death in 2012. Ann taught second grade in Ticonderoga and then as a reading specialist in Schroon Lake and Moriah. She retired from teaching in Moriah in 1985. During retirement in Green Valley, she served as a classroom assistant at Sopori Elementary School for several years.
Ann was a long time resident of Ticonderoga. She and her husband Frank were also residents of Hague and longtime winter residents of Green Valley Arizona. She was active in the Ticonderoga Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and with the Ticonderoga Country Club where she was an avid golfer for many years. Ann volunteered for the town library and served on the board of Ticonderoga Country Club. She was also the Secretary for the Green Valley Townhouse IV for many years.
She is survived by her sisters Margaret (Peg) Swanson of Honolulu, HI, Barbara Forziati of Williamsburg, VA as well as her son Roger A. Wickes (Carolyn) of Kingsbury, Step daughters Diane Fowler (Ken) of Menands, NY, Joan Thomas (Bill) of Burnsville, NC and Frank Fowler (Jane) of Crown Point.
She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren as well as a niece and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Douglas Robert Wickes, her second husband, Frank R. Fowler and her step daughter Jacqueline (Fowler) Byers. A
Memorial service will be held this summer in Ticonderoga to remember her life.
