GLENS FALLS – Alice Teresa (Chatterton) Bates, 64, of Glens Falls, passed away at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, surrounded by her family and loved ones, on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Born on May 9, 1952, in Indian Lake, she was the daughter of the late Loren and Minnie (Moulton) Chatterton. Alice attended Queensbury High School.
She worked for J. & J. Lingerie as a seamstress, and then at C. B. Sports also as a seamstress.
Alice met David “Porky” Bates on March 11, 1971 and they were united in marriage on February 23, 1974.
She loved humming birds and Indian Lake. If her husband ever said “let’s move to Indian Lake” she would have been in the truck instantly waiting. Dave would like to say, “Alice has been in my life since I was 14 years old, I’m 60 now, how will I ever get used to this. I love you more than I ever told you; I’m sure you knew. I miss you so. Love, Porky.”
In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her son Christopher David Bates who passed on September 7, 2015; her brothers Rubin Chatterton and Alan Chatterton; and her sister Mavis Blanchard.
She is survived by her husband Dave Bates of Queensbury; her sons, Chad Bates and his wife, Dorie of Granville, Jamie Bates of Glens Falls, Nick Bates of Glens Falls, Josh Bates and his wife, Jennette of Narrowsburg, NY; her daughter Olivia Bates of Glens Falls; her eight grandchildren: Dylan, Andy, Elise “Goosie,” Pauly Breault of Glens Falls, Sydney Oleavy of Queensbury, Dakota Bates of Glens Falls, Adrenna Bates of Narrowsburg, and Persphenoy Bates of Ohio; her brother Alan Chatterton of Queensbury; her three sisters, Lorretta Dickinson of Kingsbury, Yvonne Feweling, and her husband, Pete of Queensbury, and Vivian DeLong and her husband, Ron of Queensbury; her Mother-in-law Shirley Bates of Queensbury; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and her best friends Linda and Tara.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located on 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Service at the funeral home will immediately follow calling hours at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Flossie Bate from West Mountain Community Church officiating.
Donations in Alice’s name can be made to her the trust fund for her grandchildren, Dylan, Andy and Elise Bates at the Glens Falls National Bank, created after the passing of her eldest son.
