Frances L. “Frannie” Hafner

HUDSON FALLS – Frances L. “Frannie” Hafner, 93, Hudson Falls, passed on Sunday, September 02, 2018, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 4, 1925 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Marie (Bavero) LaSarso.

Fran graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1942 and a year later began working at Sandy Hill Iron and Brass in Hudson Falls.   She continued there until her marriage on December 30, 1956 to Karl R. Hafner.

Fran stayed home to raise her five children and once they were in school, she began working nights at Aggies Market in Hudson Falls.   In 1977, she started at the Washington County Office of Aging (NEWCO), retiring in 1995.

Fran was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and a member of the Fort Edward Hospital Guild.

The most important part of Fran’s life was her family and friends.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and siblings.

Besides her parents, her husband, Karl Hafner passed away in 1982 and her grandson, Charles R. Hafner II died in 1979. Her brothers, Angelo LaSarso and Michael LaSarso, and her sisters, Laura Toombs, Dorothy LaSarso Freeman, Joanna McCurry, Josephine Munro and Grace Fragola LaSarso also predeceased her.

Survivors include her five children, Charles and Joan Hafner of Norway, Maine, Kathleen Hafner of Hudson Falls, Susan Hafner-Greene of Queensbury, Edward Hafner of Hudson Falls and John and Tammy Hafner of Queensbury; her five grandchildren, Miles and Ashley Hafner, James and Brittany Hafner, and Charly Ann and Ezekiel Newhall, all of Maine, Kristen Greene and Peter Noordsy and Justin Hafner, of Queensbury;  her four great grandchildren, Nolan and McKinleigh Hafner and Peyton and Zachary Hafner;  her brothers, Frank LaSarso and Maryann Osborne and Nicholas and Joan LaSarso, all of Fort Edward; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 226, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
