HUDSON FALLS – Professor Emeritus Ronald J. Moss, 82, of Notre Dame Street, passed away on Tuesday September 27, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 5, 1934 in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Dorothy M. (LaLone) Moss.
Professor Moss received his Bachelor and Master degrees in science from SUNY at Cortland and continued his education at Niagara University, where he was awarded a Master’s degree in Natural Science.
Professor Moss served his country as a veteran of the US Naval Reserve.
On June 25, 1960, he married the love of his life, Carol Doyle in Cortland, NY.
For 25 years, he taught anatomy, physiology, molecular biology and other biology courses at Adirondack Community College. For 18 years, he was a financial professional in mutual funds and business, retiring in 1989. After his retirement, he continued to substitute teach until this current school year.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.
Professor Moss also belonged to the Hudson Falls Kiwanis for 22 years and served as president for two terms. He was a founding advisor to Circle K at ACC, President of the Homebuilders Association of Northern NY, ACC Delegate for Community College Senate for 22 years and coordinator of retirees of all ACC faculty emeriti. He also was President of the Home Owner’s Association for over 10 years in St. Peterburg, FL, where they spent their winters.
Professor Moss was a loving husband, devoted father, dedicated teacher and a devout Christian. His greatest pleasure was spending time on his boat on Lake George with family and friends. Last summer, they enjoyed 56 times during the boating season. He also enjoyed golf, gardening and many happy hours with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol D. Moss of Hudson Falls; three children, Michael J. Moss of Hudson Falls, Tammy E. Mandwelle and her husband, Ken Hicks, of South Glens Falls and Ronald “R.J.” Moss, II of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Miles Mandwelle, Jordan Mandwelle, Timothy LaMarque, Kevin Hicks, Michealee Scarincio and Jaime Hicks; one great grandchild, Brody Hicks; one sister, Barbara A. Moss of Syracuse; his brother and sister in law, Douglas and Mary Doyle of Stanfordville, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 9 am on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.
Burial will take place in the Bethlehem Cemetery on the corner of Elsmere and Kenwood Aves. in Delmar at a later date.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the SUNY Adirondack Foundation, Reach New Heights Campaign, in Ron’s memory at 640 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.
The family would like to thank Dr. Darci Gaiotti-Grubbs, the nurses and staff of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center and Tower 2 of the Glens Falls Hospital and Hudson Falls Internal Medicine for all their care and compassion shown to Ronald and his family over the years.
